I have been looking a while for an amp for thrash metal like Metallica, Megadeth, and Pantera. I have found a couple of different amps that I thought would be good, but I keep finding an issue with them. First I was looking at Engl amps, but they are way too expensive and are known to have bad build quality. Then I looked at Mesa/Boogie double and triple rectifiers specifically. These amps seem the best for me, but I stilled wished to have a lower price with the same quality. Then I found the Peavey 6505+ which ha a perfect price, but it has a bad clean tone. I need a thick amazing clean tone and a distortion with lots of punch.
I already own a Marshall AVT150H Valvestate and the clean tone is pretty good, but the distortion channels are not very good. I am open to different suggestions than the amps I listed, but I prefer it to be all tube and probably not a Marshall even though most are good. -Thanks

Buy a used Dual or Triple Rectifier and don’t look back.

Evh 50w used

This. Or, look at the Randall RD45H Diavlo. That's a thrash metal monster for cheap, and will hold it's own with much more expensive amps. GREAT cleans, too.

I got my tremoverb combo for $399 used, there are definitely deals to be had on used rectos.

Cleans are actually quite good on the 6505+ with a bias mod or tubes that run a littler hotter in the power section. Once you get the bias up to around 30ma the cleans get much better.

Buy a used 6505+ for $400, buy a used Single Rectifier for $500, and have the best of both worlds for under $1k

As others have said, there are deals out there. Keep an eye on facebook marketplace and craigslist. I've bought and flipped more 6505's than I can count in the last 2 years, and recently have had a few single, dual and triple rectifiers pop up cheap that I've made some money on.

The clean tone on a 6505+ isn't as bad as a regular 6505. Hell, I wouldn't say the cleans are worse than on a Recto either.

This right here.

Yep. I'd simply ignore everyone else's suggestions all together. $600-$700 used all day long, and they simply kill.

I got a new V2 6L6 50 watt head last week, and it just flat out slays. An Airis Savage Drive as a boost made it absolutely ridiculous. Add to that a couple tube slot upgrades, god damn. Insane.

I've been trying to sell a 5150 3 2x12 combo for a while. No bites locally.

That's because it's a beast! Nobody wants a hernia hauling it around!

Given your requirements, an old dual channel Dual Rectifier would be perfect.
