I’ve always wondered what would happen within the two political parties if an independent could manage to win the White House? Would they embrace the extremes of their own party and polarize? Or would they try harder to find the middle ground?
I agree that the strength of the 2 party system isn’t great for the country, that a strong independent party would help establish what is best for the country and its citizens….neither republicans or democrats have all the right answers and the more they become polarized, the farther away they are from finding the right solutions.

Reality is to run for president as an independent these days you're immediately labeled a nutcase or a spoiler by a large
percentage of the populace. Even folks like us who would like to see it happen.

It just seems that any true independent with ALL the qualities to make it in the political big leagues ultimately
gets assimilated into one of the two big parties. Reality is a party wins The White House - not a person.

True. Ross Peroi(sp?) came the closest and seemed to have the answers but he was virtually laughed off the stage. It would take a miracle for a 3rd party to make a significant showing…but this country really needs it.

That is something I would love to see in my lifetime. It might need to happen if there is going to be a middle class left generations from now

Ross is probably the biggest reason why the possibility is no longer viable.
He came so close, in so many ways, but in the end lacked any semblance of charisma.
On top of that he overtly embraced his own quirkiness to try and compensate.

LOTS of serious donors invested a ton into that guy only to get burned bad.
That's another reason why it won't happen again imo.

And the audience erupted in laughter, he just didn’t know how to handle that…a seasoned politician would have worked it to his advantage.
