Belarus’s authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko said Monday that there are no available volumes of fertilizer to send to the U.S. This came after President Trump announced that he was working on a “massive Deal” to buy potash from Minsk at a steep discount amid the trade war with Canada.
“Even if we wanted to supply [potash] to other, Western markets, we simply do not have those volumes — everything is contracted,” Lukashenko said in remarks published by his office on Monday.
There are no realistic options for USA to get potash anywhere else in the world except through Canada. I've also heard rumors Canada is going to start shutting down large parts of US steel and other industries soon. USA has limited supplies of metals like nickel to mine and no way to refine it.
