I'm looking for a huge sounding tube 1x12 combo that has midi switching capabilities. For sound reference, I love my 5150III and I play hard rock/metal.

Some I have found are the Randall NB King or the Engl Sovereign. I haven't heard much about these on this forum though.

Any suggestions?

You could use any combo and switch it with a Nobels MS-4, RJM Amp Gizmo or similar. Why chose an amp based on if it has Midi? It will be hard enough to find a 1x12" combo that can do metal.

Mesa/Boogie combos sound pretty good (MkIV, Rectoverb, ...) or a Shiva 20th 1x12 combo would be killer, too. Randall RM100C would have Midi integrated.

I totally agree, I am definately not going to choose an amp solely on if it has midi. I just wanted to see what else was out there and if I was missing anything that I should look into. Also, midi units such as the Amp Gizmo's are pricey (that is what I use now with my EVH). Just saying it would be nice to have it all built-in and not have the extra cable. I'm looking for a very small simple set-up that sounds huge (and I don't want to go modeling........yet :D ).

Some none midi combos I am looking at are the Splawn Streetrod, boosted Mesa Electra Dyne, or Egnater Renegade.

Find a used Axxess CFX4...it worked great for my 5150II and they go for around $100

I'm 99% sure the Marshall JVM's have midi in and out.
I had a 410 head that was pretty good. The 205 combo I had had some small nagging issues but did sound pretty good for the money.
there are several die hard JVM fans here who have used them for a long time.
A used JVM is hard to beat for the dollar.

JVMs sound great. I am gigging with mine tonight over my Fortin. I have recently come back to it after a couple years of not using it a whole lot.

The JVM215C is a killer little amp. Played one at the TC booth last year at NAMM and kept looking around for the 412 that I thought was hidden somewhere. Sounded big for a combo.

I've played the Engl Sovereign and it sounds great

The Engl Soverign better sound killer for the near $3k pricetag.
The JVM is a much better deal as you can get a new combo for around $1500 or so.
Combos always disappoint me due to the speaker rattling the tubes...if you crank one the tubes don't seem to last very well.

Man, I didn't know we were talkin that much cheese for the Engl!! Better off sticking with the gizmo and an extra cable for that price.

If I wanted to spend that much money on a 1x12 combo I would just hire a roadie for gig nights

I would like to try a JVM also, though I haven't fallen in love with any Marshall combos yet.

the JVM looks like it would work very well at a good price range. I will definately have to try this one out. Thanks to everyone with the suggestions so far.

Damn!! I just missed one locally on craigslist with the C83 mod. Went for $950. Does anyone know more about the mod?

The C83 mod lowers the gain a bit, which isn't a problem on a JVM because there is more there than any amp I have ever played, but the high harmonic content suffers a bit, IMO. There are varying opinions on it as there are with any mod. Personally, I would either leave C83 in or make it selectable with a switch.

Marshall and ENGL are overpriced. Get a nice used Switchblade combo or go Splawn Street Rod w/out-board switching.

really digging those 2 songs.

what did you use to record them ampwise?

G

Thanks! Framus Cobra and an ENGL Blackmore for rhythms. Marshall JVM 410H for solos.

If I wanted a combo, I'd buy used. The 1x12 JVM can be had for as low as $800 on Ebay, all day under 1k.

What new amp worth a shit isn't? Buying new is pretty retarded if you ask me. Especially if you hang out on forums.
