So I was running the 6L6Cs in the VH4 for a while. Sounded good, but I have this thing where I switch from EL34s to 6L6s and go back to the EL34s and they always sound better....

So I put the EL34BHTs back in the VH4 (Papa's choice tubes) and I have to say I am uber happy with the tones. For me, the 6L6s just have this mushy kind of crunch to them and they don't cut through the way the EL34s do. Amazing sounding amp- the Ruby tubes are very dynamic. Just thought that everyone should know that the master's choice to put these tubes in the VH4 is definitely rooted in the tone quality. They sound so damn good!
 
what the difference between the 6L6 and the EL34 in the VH4? ;)
 
I've been using these (EL34BHT) now for almost a year and they are the best ever in my "S" :rock:

i hope you bias the tubes after change and not only flip the switch...

I will probably try different tubes down the road just to see what the difference is and for the experience. I really like the EL34s. I ran the Quadraverb through it and I was blown away.

Yea, the guitar is a Strat that I pieced together for my 21st birthday, nothing but all sorts of US Fender parts (from '89 to 2002) except for the humbucker...Gibson 498T from the bridge of my Les Paul. The body is a reverse blue-burst from an '89 american standard deluxe. It's a pretty good live guitar- not too hot, but not too weak either. The single coils sound weak as fuck next to the 498, though. The Strat circuit tames down the hotness/thickens some low frequencies a tad where Les Pauls can be too cutting/trebley for live stuff. Still love the Les Pauls for recording, though.

I re-biased. I look at bias-out and deflections on electronics all day at work, it's the nature of the beast.
