I took the advice of some members and installed the Winged C EL34 in my Twin Jet a short while ago and did not look back. So much better imo than the 88's. Well something told me the amp would love KT77's. I installed a quad of Gold Lion Reissues and was blown away. It's still preliminary but  The notes just jumped out of my cab and hit me. The bass was thumping and tight. A little less mids but could easily be turned up. No glassiness.A woodier more complex tone as well. There were just more layers to the tone. They love higher plate voltages and can handle allot more volts on the screens. I believe 650v on the screens and 850 on the plates. I am trying to confirm that. The specs I saw were for the original Genelex. My turn to create some GAS. Like I said don't hold me too it just yet but so far.
Here's what my dealer said
Glad you like the 77's. I looked up the vintage specs on those. Design max is 800v plate and 600v screen, but I'd stay well below those numbers for the new production stuff. I'm glad there's good quality new production stuff available, but I don't think they are as rugged as the vintage stuff was. If you are looking for a tube to really beat on, we just got in the new KT120 which is a super-version of the 6550/KT88 tube. Here's a link to the specs: http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Roehren ... ungSol.pdf 60w plate dissipation is pretty impressive. I understand a pair of these is good for more than 150w.

You chose the middle road.
I am not positive but I think these may be the winner. Huge prescence. They sounded great for the thirty minutes I had to spare.

Got to hear some A/B clips.
I don't have the means to make clips right now. My priorities lie elsewhere. Who can afford a cmaera/video when they just spent 10k on gear

So I guess this is just a KT77 fable at the moment. ;) 10k on gear.....Merry Christmas to you!

Not completely sure but they sure sounded good. I mostly flipped some amps and NOS tubes. Definitely spent too much.

Me thinks those may be good in the 20th XTC too. Being described as cross between a 34 and a 6550, they could be interesting there.

I am thinking the same Steve. You have to get them into the TJ. You'll see.
