I'm more of a higher gain guy..But that sounds fantastic. The more research I have done (and I dug deep), I keep hearing the same general feedback on the 101B:
- Unique, rich and addictive midrange quality unlike any other amp
- Not a "modern metal" amp necessarily, but capable of very heavy tones
- Very versatile and hard to get a bad sound out of it
- And many times over "one of the best amps ever made"
I have to at least give this one a shot

Same. I'm dialing high gain like 95% of the time, but if there's one amp that does great high gain AND edge of breakup gain that still sounds full and harmonically interesting, it's an Ecstasy.
Also, notice the EQ curve the guy is using to get that sound. This is not an amp you dial with your eyes. Keep that in mind.

Thank you...This is another lesson that I've learned in my research. Particularly regarding the unique use of the audi-taper treble pot in the 101B. Almost all the great tones that I have seen show the treble at 2 o'clock - 3 o'clock and the presence dialed at 2 o'clock or higher.

When I first got mine I had it in a small room w/vaulted ceilings and wall to wall carpet. I struggled w/the amp big time. Soon thereafter it went into the garage - perfect spot. I also red-plated a new production Mullard running in Class A due high voltage at the wall one time. Other than that, bulletproof. Good luck and crank it through some well worn-in speakers - amazing amp.

Trying to arrange a time to pick it up this afternoon. I'm genuinely curious as well, and I'm getting a mint condition one at a price that I believe I can easily recoup...So I have to give it a shot. Ever since I heard certain portions of the Zen Amps video, I haven't been able to get it out of my head. I will write a full review once I have spent some time dialing it in.

You've gone from talking about modded Plexi's to Jose's and now landed on a Bogner XTC!
Alot of people say the blue channel is the best out there and the XTC covers alot of ground IMHO judging from clips. I hope you love it!

As it was discussed above, it's really it's own thing to me, doesn't sound/feel like any other "modded Marshall" I've played.

Really nice local seller...As promised, absolutely dead mint condition, functionally perfect and with footswitch. He was a German gentlemen and showed me a photo of he and Reinhold Bogner at his shop with this very amp (bought it direct from him). He hated to part with it (especially at the price), but is moving back to Europe next week. Wish it was sitting on top of a 4X12 instead of the back of my SUV. Will report back on tones and full review early next week, As always, thanks for all the advice, and feel free to offer any setting or tricks I should be aware of,
