The buyer of my Helix LT sent me these pictures. The LT was bubble wrapped, double boxed with bubble wrap filling the outer box. How the hell does this happen?

Wow... sorry to see that. They just don't give a damn and throw shit around- not theirs so...

they are the WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ONLY use Fedex, unless someone is in another country and requests it. I sent a guitar to Canada a few days ago via USPS international priority. They would ONLY let me insure it for $675!! They said if I wanted to pay double I could insure it for more, so I said, "ok, I will have to do that." After a second she informed me that the box was too big to be sent using that service so it could not be insured for more than $675!! Yeah, they are the WORST!!

Same could be said for Fedex, UPS, DHL, etc... Its all a crap shoot.
FedEx cracked the headstock on a Les Paul custom I ordered years ago.

Agreed, although my current local post office is the worst I've dealt with in general.

Buying/selling used gear online is always a crap shoot these days.

Looks like someone dropped it while not carefully removing the bubble wrap... The LT is not that heavy that double boxed and bubbled well it would have missing paint on the corner and be that flat. I think it's suspect...

Exactly what I was thinking, can't figure out how the paint would have gotten scratched from impact damage inside a box.

Yeah definitely a drop of some sort, have you seen the condition of the box itself?

The pictures of the outside box definitely looked a little worse for wear than when I sent it. Won't know about the inside box until it gets back to me.

I guess it could have been other things, as other have said the post office does not exactly treat packages with utmost care (I should know I worked there for a bit)
either way that's a bummer, just hope it wasn't foul play on the buyers part

I agree. Paint only gets marred from direct contact with another hard surface. Something bubble wrapped and double boxed usually gets crushed, not the damage we see here.

Any advice on how to handle this with the buyer? USPS is probably going to say the damage did not happen during shipping because of the issue with the paint, especially if the interior box is intact.

This sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’d request pictures of the outside box, the inside box and bubble wrapped unit. I’d question how the damaged occurred when the item was double boxed...unless the side was pierced by a forklift.

I ALWAYS take pictures as I’m opening the box. I take pictures in stages to provide pictorial evidence in case there is any damage.

I have always done this as well..as soon as I receive any item its picture time, starting with the cutting off the tape..
I hate to see this happen to anybody..flat out sucks !

wow, this is true, you guys are right. the guy dropped it. good catch.

I guess I'm screwed if he dropped it. USPS isn't going to pay the insurance if it's that obvious.

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. How does the paint have paint missing like that? That is what I noticed immediately. If something is bubblewrapped, I just don't see it moving around enough to cause that. Maybe I'm a crack smoker but just seems strange.

I would nicely put a bit of fear into the guy by mentioning that paint issue and saying you have to do a "full investigation", etc. I mean if nothing happens and you have to take the hit on this, so be it but might as well give it a try just in case.

I always take pictures of a damaged box, if I think there's damage to the contents.

Nobody opens up an unmolested box, and finds a damaged unit in it. It's usually pretty obvious with a mangled package.

Unless he supplied pics of a mangled box, I'd buy into him dropping it and fucking it up, and trying to pull a fast one.
