v30 4x12 advice

Hey guys!

I'm looking for a V30 loaded 4x12 cab. Just curious as to what's everyones go-to v30 cab these days? I'm kinda torn between a Bogner, Mesa (traditional) and a Wizard? Anyone here compare those particular cabs in the same room? Right now I have a 73 marshall with old greenbacks, Wizard 4x12 with 65's and a Bogner 2x12 with v30's (the bogner sounds too small compared to the 4x12's - I'd like to replace that cab with another 4x12) Open to any other suggestions as well!

Depends what you’re looking for really. 16 ohm speakers vs 8 ohm are pretty different. 16s are a bit more scooped, brighter, and aggressive. While 8 ohm are more warm.

All the cabs you listed are real well built so that won’t make a HUGE difference as opposed to the 8 ohm vs 16 ohm difference.

I have a Marshall mode 4 with those special v30’s they used and the avatar shits all over it. The Marshall is just dark…. I actually prefer the sound of 8ohm cabs to 16….

Those MF speakers are much darker than the Mesa 8 ohm.

Mesa OS and Marshall 1960A/B are my standards. I have gotten the point where Vintage 30s are the only speakers I’ll drag to a gig, although I do love Greenbacks, Creambacks, and Lynchbacks quiet a bit too.

I like the Egnater Tourmaster 412, which came standard with V30s. I didn't even know that's what I was looking for until I found one on GC for a crazy low price, back when they'd ship a 412 for $40. It's the cab that every amp I've tried sounds great through. I liked it so much I bought a second one to leave on the trailer for gigs. Real plywood, dovetail joints. They're as solid as any speaker cab I've ever owned. For some reason I want to say that Mojotone was the OEM for at least some of these. I think?

I prefer 2x12 for v30s; I have a pair of Engl 2x12 and a Mesa compact 2x12 all loaded with V30s.

not V30s, but I just got an email from zzzounds that has Randall 4x12 loaded with Jaguar speakers on sale. Not sure how true these are to the vintage Jaguars.

Wired in parallel for 8 ohms I thought with 2 16 ohm speakers. At least that’s how they were forever unless somethings changed?

Literally looking at a reverb listing right now and it has 16 ohm speakers in it.

I will throw out Splawn cabs too @Shredneck. They are built extremely well and are very affordable. I recommend their Small Block speaker if you like. Basically a 55w Greenback. I have them in my Splawn 212, which is also 8ohm.

I also like the Avatar stuff that Jack B Thug recommended.

I like Mesa & Orange (if you can deal with no casters) and own both. I’ve always wanted a Bogner cab.

If it were me, I’d buy whatever I could find a good deal on locally between those 3.

The Bogner is pretty good too, and Mesa set a standard long ago with some of their tricks, like sealing the cabs air tight. For all in one, I would go Mesa Traditional, but I haven't loaded speakers in the Bogner can I just got to judge it fairly. The bogner might rank up there with Splawn and Mesa, but I doubt it will pass Splawn in my mind. I love those Small Block speakers, and I'm a big V40 guy.

I actually dig the last Diezel 4x12 loaded with V30's - however I generally mix V30 with 2 other speakers as I tend not to prefer 4 V30's in a 412 compared to a mix. Also dug Orange PPC412 for a while.

I hybridized my Mesa with foam on the back panel and series/parallel Aiken wiring same as Bogner.

Literally had to sit down and shed a tear of joy as I was overcome by the sheer awesomeness of the cabinet.

Stock wiring is utilitarian, not utopian.

After using OS Boogie 4x12’s for almost 30 years I bought a standard size Mesa cab with V30’s, and what a difference. Tighter, more punch and cleaner chugs.

Changing the wiring in the mesa changed the sound?
