Yeah none of these live albums were/are ever 100% live from such and such a show. As a kid Tribute was my bible. Randy sounds amazing on that! Then I realized and read that they just cut diff parts of his performances to make the leads on that album and that is why they are so incredible. Not that he didn't play incredibly every night but they wanted to capture the ultimate performance. If you listen back to some of the real live bootlegs, you can hear some signature parts from certain leads that you know were borrowed to make up some of that album. They all do it. Touch ups. Makes me wonder if UFO's Strangers in the Night is also victim of some of this editing.

Guitar sounds about right but Ozzy sounds worse than he does on Tribute so they probably patched in a diff performance from him on some of these tunes. Randy also makes a mistake at the beginning of the Crazy solo which is def not there on Tribute so definitely some polishing.

as far as I have read they only fixed crazy train intro and sped up the solo in SS .... the rest is all randy from one show (well 2 if you count the "b Side" (the hammersmith stuff, so romance on))....his guitar tone is way different to the king biscuit stuff, but tribute was my bible to so I love how it sounds, and yeah ozzy vocal redid all his vocals, but I don't care, he sounds great

WASP live in the raw was the same for me ... LOVED it in my teens even though most of it was studio

If they wanna release a Roth live thing, why not the pro shot vid and pro recorded stuff they have from the early eighties when they were in their prime?

King Biscuit Montreal 81 was my bible. Blows Tribute and the original Cleveland show away!! At least we got another great show via the Diary 30th Anniversary Bonus Disc!!

Ozzy's vocals are all overdubbed on Tribute, at least for the main show (don't know about "Goodbye To Romance" or "No Bone Movies"). As far as I know, the only part of Randy's playing that was taken from a different performance was his solo spot at the end of "Suicide Solution", which is from the King Biscuit Flower Hour, Montreal 81 show. The big tell-tale sign that it is lifted from that show on Tribute is that Randy's playing momentarily stops and the very beginning & end of the solo, not to mention the change in his tone.

You can hear the "Tribute" solo here, along with the actual performance of "Suicide Solution" it was taken from (notice no stops in playing before the start/end of the solo

Awesome stuff.. love nerding out over this Randy stuff. I wish I could have seen a show with him.. so much energy and fire behind his playing. It is super aggressive and cuts. He also took liberties night to night with his solos it would seem so you never really got the exact same performance. (though always a great performance)

I also saw Van Halen two years ago as well and I thought the band was pretty damn tight. DLR was the weak link though... just a cheeseball who does look like Niles Crane and dances around like a clown. It just doesn't work with short hair.

I'd love to see some old footage released...but the Oakland 81 footage may just be those 3 songs...just 3 filmed.

Why would you say that? From what I've heard Eddie say, the band commissioned the recording of those shows.
