I can't believe the amount of bitching people do about gear these days. Ya there's some drawbacks to everything, but compared to when I started playing, I mean, jesus, everything gets nitpicked to death these days- how can he compare the axe to an Eventide Eclipse even? They are totally different, does the eventide do amp/cab modeling??? And bag on the effects when he doesn't even want to read the manual, and get in and edit presets? I mean the device is DEEP so it's like, why fork out the dough to get it and then complain about how deep it is, and also state clearly that you have no intention of even trying to learn about it so maybe you COULD make it sound like you'd like???
When I started I had a 10 watt Traynor SS amp, a chorus and a boss SD1. A big step up for me was a Marshall mosfet 100- then I got a Boogie Caliber 50 (boutique at the time) and a Digitech rack thing, and I was in hog heaven. With the stuff out now, it'd make that gear I had look like a pile of poop... I'm just saying, less complaining, more practicing would be good!!!!

There was a thread on TGP a couple weeks ago, and some guy who had a nice vintage marshall was asking something along the lines of "should I put this speaker in or that preamp tube, and get different cables, and what about this and that" and on and on, and one of the replys was
"Dude, just STFU, plug in, and play some rock"
And I found it refreshing and invigorating

That said Ive always said that you should play what you like. There isnt anyone that can tell you whats best for you for the most part. Its not like I needed to say that , just sayin..
First of all, I'm old and I still love my Axe!RedRider":1dmsb6vf said:He is a crusty guy set in his ways and is upset about the press the Axefx is getting and all the old Tube snobs cant keep up. He is OBVIOUSLY a plug in and run with it kind of guy and if he cant figure it out in 3 minutes he moves on...which is absolutely fine...but why he takes a 2 hour video to bag on the gear that the younger generation digs is beyond me. Its obvious he didnt WANT to like the thing.
On the price thing, yeah the Axe is insanely expensive and the profit margin is HUGE if you are just looking at the hardware....however that isnt what this box is...its a piece of software...the box is just a housing for the software. I work for a router manufacturer....before we were bought by a larger company we had 1200 employees, probably 850 of them were software development engineers...the rest were sales, management, and support....so OVER 75% of the company was here just to create the software to run the hardware...the profit margin on our boxes, if you just considered the manufacturing costs of the hardware was over 95%...I would say the Axe is probably close to the same. But once you factor in the amount of software development time that margin is SIGNIFICANTLY altered.
Also, the guy makes the exact point of the axe in his video even while trying to bash it....he is sitting in a HUGE room with a ton of space taken up by 5 heads all sitting on 4 x 12's and says if I wanna play a JTM 45 I plug into this one, a road king I plug into this one etc... all the while making a joke that he puts the Axe on bypass and plugs into them....well he can get 90% of true tone of all the amps he had there simply by reading that huge manual he was bitching about...so unless he has an entire wharehouse and a full time team of roadies to haul his gear, he will never get close to what the axe is capable of.
I do agree that if given the choice of my Soldano SLO or plugging into the Axe and putting it on the SLO patch I am going to pick plugging into the actual amp literally EVERY SINGLE TIME....and yeah, I do like the perceived feel of a tube amp better than the feel of every modeler I have ever played, including the axe, however the flexibility and portability in the tiny 2 rack space box is hard to pass up. If all I was going to play was my SLO and never leave my house, hell no the Axe would NEVER be better than that....but there is no way in hell my SLO and all the pedals in the world will ever be able to replicate everything the Axe can do.
THe guy is just a crotchity old bahstid who got blasted on the axefx forum or tgp and popped a video to feel better about his decision to not like the axefx...thats all it is. HE is completely set in his ways and cant realize why anyone would want to do things differently than the way he does things...kinda reminds me of when I was a kid and attempted to show my grandfather my digital watch and he pushed that a watch is for telling hte time right now, not for setting alarms, using as a stopwatch, knowing what time it was in hong kong and the US at the same time etc....the whole time he was arguing with me, saying "why would I want to do that???" LOL...this guy in the video is EXACTLY the same way.... COMPLETELY SET IN HIS WAYS
I like fair criticism. It helps people improve and make better products. I just don't like ridiculous statements like saying the Axe is not worth it because it is a few hundred dollars in parts. Ignoring all the R&D that went into it and resulted in this product is just dumb.Shiny_Surface":11vz0lhd said:Setting this guy's video aside for the moment,
I just think it's unrealistic not to expect negative criticism/bitching about gear on forums/video sites...
It just comes with the territory of the whole online experience, just imo.
Otherwise you have a fantasy happy land filled with salesman/representatives and fan's praising everything.
Sometimes you just have to learn the hard way that the biggest improvements in the sounds that come out of your cabs comes from the amount of quality time you spend playing your guitars...petethorn":2o4eafqi said:I hear ya and I agree of course it's fine to be critical, but this vid is over the top in spots.

Me too - I found those videos hilarious, but not for the reasons the poster might expect...Shiny_Surface":f6shwndp said:sah5150":f6shwndp said:But you're right. There will always be dumb people everywhere making dumb comments. The Internet is no different...![]()

I have to admit even if I don't agree with the criticism sometimes I find it entertaining...
