In my little war, our artillery battalion was loading onto flat bottom boats to leave DaNang and head north toward the DMZ, following the coast to Dong Ha and heading overland almost to Laos in support of Operation Lam Son 719.
A lifetime ago.

I remember you told me about your adventure in March.

You fought a formidable foe.
VC were no joke.

Neither had any towels on their heads to tell the difference from friendly villagers to NVA

Slept on a cot, in a tent, in the sand for 8 1/2 months during Desert Storm. Best thing I ever did was join. Oh, the stories...

only boat bigger than us was a carrier.
held 9m gallons of fuel, produced our own water and replenished the fleet with gas, fresh water, amo and food

795 feet long 106 feet wide and displaced 54K tons full

we rode like a Cadillac.

My CO was one of the first Top Gun commanders. F14s in nam.
cool as hell, bad ass, but never ever piss him off
