Agreed. He has always been a mess vocally live but I don't care. They are a fun live band. I don't expect anymore than that from them, then or now. I mean they have been a major act for about 37 years (not including their club days). Tons of partying and not taking care of themselves. It is what it is and I am fine with it regardless of the glaring imperfections.

DLR has a special place in my heart. In 2002 I took my family to southern California for a 2 week vacation. My kids were in middle school. We were at an Italian restaurant in Venice Beach. Tratori's or something like that. Half way through dinner I went to the restroom and in a back table with a few ladies, there he was. I didn't want to be a goofy tourist fan.....but I walked up to the table and said..."I won't bother you, I just want to say I'm a big fan." I started to walk away and he asked me to sit down for a minute. Told him we were out here from Ohio doing the California dream vacation thing. where is your family? Bring them over here! So he met my wife and kids. He was so laid back, unlike I expected. He was so funny and beyond kind. We thanked him and went back to our table. He gave my wife and kids hugs, encouraged them to excel in school and go on to college. It was almost like he wanted to be new friends with us, like he was lonely.

He and his party left about 10 minutes later, but he walked through the restaurant over to our table and said good by again. People in the restaurant we all watching. As he walked away he turned around and said, "stay in touch Rodman!" and pointed his finger at me with a huge smile. Man I felt like the most important guy on the planet. My kids now out of college still talk about it.

Seeing these clips, are hard to watch. We are the same age. It's like the athlete trying to retain his youth. He is trying to hard, the eternal fake smile, don't like the clothes....just awkward.
