The song is ok. I think it sounds more like David Lee Roth's post Vai solo music.
that's kinda what i thought the first time i heard it--roth heavy mix might not be the best idea--shoulda tucked him back, and bottom line is had eddie used his brown sound and been cranked up in the mix it would have salvaged this tune from pedestrian to folklore level banter.
the volume swells at the end really point out how unmagical the gtr tone is, as opposed to say "you're no good" where the swells went from angels to demons.

......They should have thrown some chicks in it and had some change of scenery in it.
They couldn't find enough hot 40+ year olds for a video.

Glad they are back at recording.

Somebody needs to give Ed a drink to loosen him up and get those old creative juices flowing.
Like others have said, it sounds like very safe, very simple vanilla type writing...kind of like Van Hagar near the end except with Davey trying to hit notes out of his range.

Dave! ...be tougher and cooler (at night I walk these stinkin' streets) and sing lower (in your range) and do high dog whelps here and there...that's what you do.

Just two drinks then tell him to go write.
If he writes something great reward him with one beer, it goes to a limit of say 3 reward beers in one day.
He'd be fine.
When he writes something that's not great shock him.

If they let me produce/engineer the next VH album, I could get the goods. :D

Hmmm.. I'll take Me Wise Magic and Cant get this Stuff no more over this. But hey Im with Ralph, just glad to see them back at it again and the song's is not horrible, i just expected something a little more daring....like Sinners Swing! ..the lyrical content however i must say is pretty cheesy....C Mon Dave , give me a break.

I'm sure track 2 on the album will be much better.
On VH II I didn't like track 1 either.

Cool, good to see them at it. Though it doesn't sound like VH to me. The songwriting sounds like OG classic rock, the kind of music they destroyed when VHI hit in '78. Kinda weird.
My Feelings exactly, just worded better! I was like WTF is this... the James gang circa 1970 ?
I'm just Happy they are back and really looking forward to hear the rest ;)

I bolded what I thought too. It sounded like Walk Away to me. Not bad but not great. Certainly better than Why Can't This Be Love. I was a VH homer when 5150 was released and I was so pumped for that album. I heard that single released and was like WTF. The rest of the album was great. I will say I love the way this tune ends (not being a wise guy). New VH is better than no VH. If they can keep it together and put out a Blu Ray of the tour I will be happy.

Didn't love it, but didn't hate it, either. There are a lot of songs that I have to hear several times before I really like them. I don't think this one will ever be in constant rotation on my iPod, but it may find a home in the "once in a while" playlist. I'll give it a chance - I owe Eddie that much.

It sounds like a song that was selected by the record company to promote because it is "safe" and has the potential to get exposure to more than just hard-core VH fans. Easy-listening VH - coming to an AM dial near you...

he should have went back to the raw marshall sound though. its too polished. They should have used old recording tricks too.

I'm not a HUGE VH freak, but really, I'm not feeling this song much at all. It falls into the category of what I refer to as "goofy" VH, with the lyrics... and that's always been my least favorite style of this band. Musically this song is just kinda there and pretty bland. I think most people were wanting to hear VH come out with something ripping and the more aggressive styling that made everyone say "Holy Shit" back in the day. This definitely isn't that. But really, who am I to rip these guys? I do feel like it misses the way Michael Anthony plays. He's got a certain style and feel that isn't present here. Not knocking Wolfie, he's fine. But Anthony has a certain attack that he plays with that isn't here. It's on ever album he's ever been on regardless of the band. He's actually one of my favorite bass players.

Keep in mind, this is a single and more or less for radio play and as a taste of the album, nothing more.

^ This for me as well. I realize evolution and all, but I saw them on their first headlining tour in '79 , the third album, Fair Wairing and Diver Down and nothing about that reminds me of or tops or evolves even from those days.
