Though the tune didnt "wow!" me, it is NEW Van Halen and that "wows" me

Looking forward to the rest of the album :)

I think they took a conservative, somewhat poppy hit that might get some radio play into consideration for the first single. Give me hope that album is actually more aggressive, and the other material might not be so radio friendly.

Funny thing is Tattoo was cued up before Runnin' With The Devil in my iTunes. If they released that today what would people be saying. The tune itself is not a world-beater. The riff is better and the solo is better of course. But even it would not have lived up to expecations. They should have laid off the hype. Forget the teaser videos and private shows bullshit and get back to work!

I'm sure this is kinda the middle of the road for the material on the album. I think the CD will have some much more adventurous, classic sounding stuff. This is a single they're going after radio with. I like it.

I'm sure they could have done something that I would have like more, but it's just a song. There will be 12 others on the album.

The reason it doesn't really sound like classic VH is because Michael Anthony's vocals are missing. That was a huge part of their sound.

I really wanted to like it but I didn't.

I really missed Micheal Anthony. Wolfie is cool, I like him but just not in VH. He needs to get out from under Eddie's wing.

That's one reason but imo it's the writing way more then some high harmony that is different. If you threw Michael's voice on there it still wouldn't sound like VH to me.

EVH is the reason why I play guitar and As a HUGE Van Halen fan I am Glad to see Eddie looking healthy and playing again.

As far as the tune is concerned, I can't help thinking that it's probably the Most Un-Van Halen Van Halen tune that Ive ever heard but that's just me.
from the first word to the last, agree 100%

I agree with this, it is more than the backing vocals but the writing. The writing seems very safe and well within the box like they are trying not to screw up. No fire or on the edge where VH was back in the day.

I woke up excited... "it's Van Halen day" I exclaimed!

I went straight to my iPhone on the side of the bed, to get my first dose of some long awaited Van Halen!

My smile quickly turns to "wtf?" and I'm semi-embarrassed my girlfriend, laying next to me, has to listen to this track.

I can handle cheesy lyrics, but whoa...somebody get me a doctor here. This is just too much.

I turn it off less than halfway through.

Ten minutes go by. I wonder, should I continue listening? I decide yes.

I kind of like the pre-chorus. Chorus does nothing for me. And DLR has been given way too much freedom for ad-libbing his "yeah's" and so on.

Solo, decent, not blown away. It's good to hear Eddie though.

Listened a few more times this morning. It's alright, but I wish they had chosen a better single. I bet "She's the woman" is going to sound way cooler!

Overall impressions of Tattoo: Music is decent, lyrics are poor. DLR is too high in the mix but I think he sounds alright. Otherwise, production seems to be good. Not a bad song, but definitely not their best offering. I won't be raping the play button on this one.

Not exactly what I was expecting .... Very commercial , but commercial for like 1984 or something  Don't get me wrong I will buy the cd and check them out on tour , but I was thinking the first single would have more balls and then some , but as some have mentioned it's only one song . I just hope the rest of the stuff is a bit more pissed and rockin

Eddie's playing does sound good though ....

This single is kind of mediocre. I don't hate it but I don't really dig it. Hopefully some of the other songs on the album are better. Also, the video was really sterile , not much really going on there. They should have thrown some chicks in it and had some change of scenery in it.

The song was ok. A little safe to say the least. I do think all of the critics of Hagar's lyrics need to shut it though after hearing this.

My issue is that while EVH played well, the guitar sounds like a pissed off bee hive fed through a sub woofer. Or, more likely, a direct box or sims sadly in this day and age.

Yup!

I think "Cant Get This Stuff" AND "Me Wise Magic" are better songs.

The song is ok. I think it sounds more like David Lee Roth's post Vai solo music.

It took a few times for me to get into it. I like it as something different, but I don't think it's going to have much stay power. I'm not sure the band and Dave are really happy to be doing it. We'll see how the rest of the cd goes.

I hate and despise Dave's pre solo improve there. Really bad. Otherwise I thought he did fine. And has he grown some hair that he didn't have before?
