Until I hear the whole album I would reserve judgement, but I am a guitar geek and a big EVH fan... and I to was hoping for something killer and I agree this is not that good. Roth is a lot like Henry Winkler. Both Diamond Dave and the Fonz were pretty cool 30 years ago.....today.....not so much!

Personally I'd like to hear something fresh, more laid back maybe to suit the age of the band (excl Wolfie). Something rythmic/ melodic, left of centre. This stuff is just rehashed especially the solo hooks.

EVH is the reason why I play guitar and As a HUGE Van Halen fan I am Glad to see Eddie looking healthy and playing again.

As far as the tune is concerned, I can't help thinking that it's probably the Most Un-Van Halen Van Halen tune that Ive ever heard but that's just me.

Eddie was a HUGE influence on me as well. I think this tune is pretty good! It's better than I was expecting. As far as it being "un-Van Halen", the whole Sammy era was VERY un Van Halen imho.

We are entertained by this forum. Not sure what there is to explain since pretty much everyone who comes here obviously do for some sort of entertainment value.

Sounds like VH to me  Big drums, loud guitars, cool solo, goofy Dave vocals. As I read through this thread, I'm thinking wtf is everyone really expecting? It's not 1981...EVH is an old dude now who appears to have straightened his life out and actually made a new record...with DLR!! I don't think they have a meanstreets or sinner's swing left in them to be honest but I hope I'm proven wrong when the record comes out :D

My prediction: VH sell a bunch of records, goes on tour and entertains the masses which is what they have always done.

Well, If I find something entertaining, I can give the reason as to why I find it entertaining and I dont have a problem giving or explaining the reason why I find it entertaining.

I was just curious as to the whats and whys of what you find entertaining about "this place" in regards to the OT... I dont see it as being a hard question to answer so I suppose you have your reasons..

The song is ok. I think it sounds more like David Lee Roth's post Vai solo music.

As a guy that owns pretty much everything DLR has put out, I will agree with one thing. It sounds like DLR vocals and lyrics (which I like.) The music, however, is terrible. Considering that this is the first track from EVH I expected way more. If this is what EVH is releasing as VH's first track, the rest of the album must suck. I hope not, but will not hold out any hope. This is definitely no Me Wise Magic, which was light years better than this mundane crap.

After a couple of listens I'm digging it. Original version was cool as well.
Looking forward to the cd, tour and everything else that comes with it. Hopefully a live DVD and record with Dave. Beats Dancing in the streets.

Stones were still rocking till at least 1978.

Technical aspects aside, the Stones haven't written a decent song since 1972... Steve

Steve , I must disagree with you on this man ... Are you telling me that the songs ( Miss You ) and (Beast of Burden ) by the Stones which both came out sometime in the late 70's were not good songs ?????

Did I miss something
Both of those songs are crap to me compared with the stuff they released from '68-'72. Personally, I hate them both...

Steve

You are correct- you will be proven wrong :D You guys just hold on. Waaaaaiiiitttt for it. You're gonna get knocked on your ass. This is just the single, and I think it's a good medium tempo rocker. There's more to the picture....

Exactly what I was thinking. Anyone expecting nearly 60 year old men to write like they did when they were 25 are off their meds.

And speaking as a VH fan who didn't have access to all of those bootlegs of the old stuff back in the day, I dig this stuff. On first listen I was a little perplexed but after listening a few times and letting it sink in, I think it's cool. It's laid back and groovy. Looking forward to the rest.
