VHT/Fryette Pitbull/Sig X vs Mesa Mk Series amps

I played thru a VHT ultra lead. And I owned a Mesa Mark III RED STRIPE........

For me....it was Mesa all the way. No contest.
But thats my opinion! :D

When I decided that I wanted to off my ENGL, those were all in contention for a new amp, but the one dealer in my area didn't have any in stock, so I ended up with a Mark V.

I would say that with any of these amps though, one could not go wrong. I love my Mark V though

VHT for me, Marks are great amps, I just prefer the VHT tone.

The D120 I had made a VHT fanboy out of me but if I had to pick one it would be MarkIII for me, it would have to have all the options though. Didn't care that much for the MarkIV I played (too much nonsense) and I haven't played any of the others...so there's my very limited opinion

I have a Mark 3, Mark 4 and a Sig X.
I prefer the Sig X to both.
It has much cleaner cleans.
All the mid gain sounds are punchy and clear.
And the high gain is super tight and cuts like nothing else.
The Marks have that nice high gain "Metallica" sound, but that easily gets lost in the mix in a live situation.
The Marks also tend to give me a headache after playing through them at any serious volume for a period of time.
The Six X also has a lot more options as far as dialing in sounds.
Play them both side by side in a band situation with 2 guitarists, and you won't hear the Mark.
I also prefer the cut through crunch and bark that the Fryette has.
YMMV

I'm thinking hard about a Fryette Ultra Lead for a solid death metal amplifer. I'm leaning towards it or an Engl Savage currently, but I've been changing preference every couple of days, so there's no telling what I'm going to eventually get. I was into Diezel Herbert, but the more I compared clips to Savages and Ultra Leads, the less organic and raw it seemed, and a thick, raw distortion is what I'm wanting. I'm just going in circles looking through these amps online, and I can't find them locally or within a reasonable drive.

I was just telling a friend, I was thinking about offing EVERYTHING except the Recto for a UL.... probably still wouldn't have enough.

That's what I'm planning on, selling the 6505+ and Ampeg VH140C for a higher-end amplifier, and the Avatar/Mesa cabs for an Eminence loaded Vader. I just want to get the rig down to just a cab, an amp, and a guitar directly plugged in, and then I can build on from there if needed, but that should be enough for now. I need to simplify.

man it's aweful tempting, it really is. imagine a tremoverb in stereo with a UL?

I was kinda surprized how close the Mark V and my Ultra Lead sound like each other. I could dial them in pretty close to one another. For me I still like the UL, it is something different that not everyone has. The UL paired up with a Fat bottom is a pretty lethal combination. It is tight and focused. Really the best amp I have played for cutting in band situations. Have not had any problems with it so far. Really like what KT88's bring to the table as well. Neither the Mark or UL would get kicked outta my bed.

What settings are you using on the Sig for high gain sounds? I just got one and it definately has punch! Just need to tweak it for my style of high gain.

I would love to hear some Sig X metal clips. I hear people say it can't do metal very well, but I call bullshit on that. I have heard people say that the Mark V and UL can't do metal aswell :D

I played the VHT 50CL and it was one of the amps I played that I didn't buy and I pissed I didn't. It was smoking!!

It is bullshit, the Sig:X can do Metal with ease, wish I had, had my camera when I had it, I'd hae a clip of it, GREAT amp.

I had 100/CL ,GREAT amp, something in the mids I couldn't dial out, drove me nuts till I sold it. I'm hoping the UL doesn't have that, cause I'm seriously thinking about trying to pick up a UL soon.

I have owned a II and III .... still have my IV. The amps I use the most is my Sig X and THD stuff. I am very familiar with the Pitbull's and Deliverance amps.

The Sig X is my favorite of all the Fryette amps. All these amps are great and have there own flavor and features. I also feel the Sig X is the most versatile of all of them. The IV being pretty close.

I think the cleans and leads from the Marks and Fryette amps are about equal .... but different and each one is unique.
I feel when it comes to English crunch type sounds the Sig X is the best of the bunch..... The Deliverance is probably equal or maybe even better in some ways ..... but it not being a channel switcher it is limited. The Mark amps do not do this kind of sound very well.

The Fryette stuff is very much voiced to cut in a mix great. I have no problem doing this with the Mesa stuff .... but the Fryette is better and easier to do this with.

The Sig X does metal and any other style fine if you ask me, to me this statement is a bit ridicules.

I feel my Sig X, IV and Tremoverb are different enough that I have no interest in selling any of them. What one I would use would very much depend on the needs of the situation. But if I was going to pick one of all the amps you mentioned it would be a Sig X for me.
