VHT/FRYETTE UL - what cabinet setup?

I have a VHT era Pittbull UL with KT-88s - not Graphic EQ. Currently using a Deliverance 412 cab and feel like the sound is kind of constrained in the lower range.

I had one of the older fatbottom cabs - what whatever it was called (VHT) era and kind of liked the D412 a bit better. I'm still not completely happy with the tone.

I was thinking of adding a 2x15? Any thoughts on that? Or another 4x12?

I tune in Standard/Drop D and also play a baritone guitar. Play metal and cleaner rock/mathy kind of stuff.

What exactly do you mean by constrained? Is there not enough low end or do the lows just not get deep enough? You tune to drop-d and standard, there’s not going to be really deep deep lows. So yeah I’m confused.

Not full enough in the low end spectrum. I’m wondering if another cab or speakers would help with that.

I used to have an old non eq GL100 too. You need to run the Master volume high (8-9/10), and set the channel volumes to taste (2-3/10) for the amp to sound it's fullest.

You can also trying changing the tubes to 6L6s. I find they give a nice lowend.
Every KT88 amp I've owned has had a big lowend, but never a thick low-end. KT88s are very stout, and stiff sounding tubes that generally sound best at very loud/peak volumes. Combine that with the drier feeling/voicing of the VHT preamp, and it can be an issue for some ears.

Speaker wise, a speaker with some character and presence worked best with the amp imho. I preferred a Mesa 412 with Mesa V30s with that amp.

I run my UL (with good kt88s) master around 2-3 oclock. I have cabs with all sorts of speaker combos. I will say no matter what can I run it thru...I am always smiling. But I am easier to make happy than most tone freaks here.

You have the right cab, try an eq pedal in the loop if you need more low end.

You may wanna check if not wrong few of the older VHT FB cab comes with V30s... if that so you may wanna steer towards the Eminence P50es or their new speakers fanes ?

True, some of the early Fat Bottom cabs had V30’s.
Steve Fryette wasn’t entirely happy with them, hence why the bulk of cabs have Eminence P50’s.

OP is currently running a Deliverence cab which should be loaded with said P50’s.
He may want to try a Fat Bottom cab which is recommended for UL’s.
Or try one of the recent Fane loaded cabs.
