No, What I'm hearing in this video is a MODDED TS-9. or something else!

the ts9 is just pushing this amp, the level all the way up, gain off, it is a fantastic amp all by itself, but pushing it makes it tighter and more gnarly and best of all this will piss some of you off, it has all JJ tubes 4-E34L's and 3-12ax7's from euro tubes

Well I expect a modded TS9 to add that amount of push but what I was saying is that Ive never heard a stock ts9 do that to an amp! Im not complaining at all either! Im just saying that back in the day, if my TS9/marshall combo sounded that good, then i would have stopped chasing shit LOL. Ive done it many times and experimented with a lot of boosts and I was never able to get anything close to that. Now hear me on this, I'm Not saying that it couldn't be done , Im just saying that ive never been able to get that way back when. I just want to be clear on this lol

Sounds fan-fucking-tastic! Love it. I might have to invest in a TS-9 to use with my Super Lead. I also have a Chupacabra on the way to me. I wonder if I could get a similar sound with it? I've been wanting to build another amp as well. Might have to grab a Ceriatone kit and some Metro transformers...

We're gonna tweak it a bit more but so far so good!!

And this is why I own three stock old Marshalls and a vintage TS-9, and SD-1 and Maxon OD-808, and DOD OD250 and MXR Distortion +. And this is why I scratch my head when all I read about are modded Marshall this and modded Marshall that. And then there's the cost of these mods in the $600 to $1000 range.

THIS is what an old MV JMP sounds like with a pedal. And to you guys thinking that the modded Tube Screamer is the holy grail part of achieving this tone, IMO it isn't because these amps sound very similar with stock TS-9's too. Most of the mods for Tube Screamer take away the midrange hump but that hump is what gets you heard in the context of a full mix. I'm not saying Marshall Law's mod to his TS-9 isn't cool, I'm just saying that these amps sound phenomenal with one of the right boost pedals with them. Like '70 strathead also said....... that's what these should sound like.

They won't have tons of modern low end. They won't have tons of modern saturation or gain. They will rock.

Sure but a modded Marshall can get that sound without a pedal and at sound levels that won't piss of the sound guy, your wife, the neighbors, the mailman, the dog, etc. When i played out with a 50 watt plexi and a Tube Screamer i talked to the sound guys and most of them took me out of the PA mix. If there's any tricks I haven't tried for just taming volume, I'd be happy to try.

However, the FX loop knob that Splawn uses did work well on the Street Rod i tried.

Hmm... no stickers or stamped numbers anywhere? It could be on the side facing away from you, so you probably can't see it unless you take the chassis out. But, I might build a 2203 clone in the near future and Metro sells both Dagnall and Drake clones to use. So it'd be cool if you could find out what your amp has somehow.

I looked, nothing, it is a 34 year old amp and it gets hot, they are old looking transformers and there is rust on the plates, I don't know

Damn. Oh well. I actually just found both a 77 and 78 JMP 2203 for sale. I might jump on one of 'em. Only thing is they're both out of state, so I can't play either first.

Could part of it be the way he plays? I saw him do a clip od what I thought was an early JCM800 and a plank cranker? It mopped the floor with a lot of Marshall mods I've seen. Sounded great though.

hmm, my 78 modded marshall (mod is switchable), sounds gat damn close to that with a TS. I use a TC Booster/Line Driver though, so a more thrashy/hardcore sound instead. I swear the JMP has one of the best and most flexable tone stacks of all amps. You can do classic through modern with a simple OD pedal and a good ear.
