Of the ones with more gain..... that Wizard killed IHMO.[/quot

Imo, in the room the wizard, vh4, hiwatt, and variaced 68, immediately sounded huge, sounded money! Like, close you eyes, big opening riffs at an arena show sound...
Fuckin spoiled getting that kind of deaf that day!

-The Bones and Event Horizon did not sound good at all...something weird going on with the low end or something...sounded like a broken speaker. :dunno: Kind of a letdown, as I was really looking forward to hearing the Bones. (maybe it wasnt dialed in correctly?)

By the way I was really dissapointed with the sound from the Fortin Bones.

I completely agree that the Bones sounded like hammered shit

It is fascinating to me how across the board people's perceptions of what sounds good to them are when it comes to amp clips. Like I said, I'm in agreement on it sounding terrible, but you know what, just as many people that hate it, will love it.

For example, I took an order today for a Bones because of this LA Amp Fest :) So thanks James

So from my perspective, it's all good

Cheers,
Mike

Bummer. thats not the lead channel. Mark f'd up. thats the crunch channel.

I like a lot of those. I like Steves , its deifferent. The Hughes and the Reeves were cool.

so many good en's

Ok, so then there was no lead channel recorded for the CCV?

What a pitty, reaaaally wanted to hear it...

Jerry was talking about the Surreal not the CCV.

Yeah the Hybrid. When I dropped it off James played it and it was roaring like a heavy metal lion.........That was the medium channel.

Dude - that channel sounds killer! Would have been nice to hear the lead channel, but I totally dug that crunch channel! Well done...

Thanks, Olaf! The amp wouldn't exist without your guidance!

Really glad that you guys liked my Wizard, makes me feel like a proud pappa :D

To answer the guy who asked earlier, this Wizard has the C transformer and the clean channel is just as awesome as well.....

Mark built it. I did the clean channel. which also crunches quite nicely. I think it would have done really well in the medium gain using the clean channel dimed.. it sounds really cool. Kinda like the classic squared demo from amp show.

Really, why? People are obviously going to voice their opinions. That's what it's all about! What works for some people won't for others. I am stoked about these clips! James, you're the man!

I had talked to Mike Fortin about an ampfest at some point and he sounded like he might like to come too. This could be fun!
Jerry

Yeah man, I'm still up for that
I'll email you about that.

Nice! Did the mod squad listen firstly. Gotta take a break. The Jose sounds awesome imo. The camerons have wicked clarity. Chupacabra sounds amazing, and at the price is ridiculous. Friedmans = very yes. Something in the Wizard sound a bit wooly to me, but has that "it" factor.

Basically, 85% of these amps sound like with enough mucking around could at least do very good impressions of each other. Would be happy to own any/all! :D

I dont see this getting bad and still cannot wait to get home and listen to everything on the monitors

Having been there the whole time, I can honestly say that there were only a handful of amps that didn't sound good to me, and some of mine were in that category. By and large, there was just a massive amount of tone and I think the players did an amazing job showcasing the amps.

Everyone is going to have an opinion, and sure, some amps COULD have sounded better. I'm going to try and get some of my own clips up to provide some comparison. Maybe they'll sound better, maybe they'll sound worse, but more data is more data, right?

All in all, it was an awesome day, awesome effort, and in the end a lot of people will get to see/hear amps to which they would otherwise never had access.

Let us be thankful!!

Cheers,

Nah Dude, its all freekin Good. Its funny the SLO is getting downed this year, but the last Ampfest opinion was it pretty much ruled. THere isnt a bad amp in the bunch, its just what the dial was set at that day...and after playing all those amps there is no way ear fatigue didnt set in at least a little bit. For every bad clip I have heard of an amp, there are three good ones...and probably vice versa too...LOL...otherwise the amp maker would be out of business.

Hopefully no one gets their panties in a wad over what they heard in a 1 minute clip on Youtube. If guys who own a Fortin think this clip sounds bad, then go out on the web and I am sure you can find 20 clips that freekin rule. Plus I am sure that it sounded completely different there in person too....its just the nature of the beast. It had to be killer to sit in a room with a bunch of amp builders in attendance, some killer players, and enough hot tubes to heat Sarah Palins office for a week!

Just listened again with a fresh pair of ears.

For the most part I stand by my first post, but upon second listen some of the amps sounded a little more similar to each other. As stated above, all of these are killer amps and can be dialed to sound somewhat similar.

Just want to clear something up that said earlier too...the Bones is a KILLER amp and in no way was I putting it down. I'd love to own one. The actual tone of the amp sounded great, but it just sounded like the low end was clipping or breaking up in some way...don't know how to explain it. I should've just kept my mouth shut. I freakin LOVE the Fortin sound so don't take what I said the wrong way Mike, or anyone else.

Another thing I wanted to say is what a great job you guys did in sorting the amps by category. Some of them could ride the line between groups and excel at multiple sounds, but I thought the whole thing was sorted very well. Rock on.
