  I love amp shootouts. I liked the VH4 the best. I think after that it was HBE, BE, Orange and Recto, even though I didn't like the last two equally
Yeah, that recto tone was cool, but a little 'messy' for lack of a better word. I can't enjoy recto tones after playing through mine. Once I changed to KT77's and switched back to my old carvin cab, game over!  I can't stand em anymore with v30's or stock tubes.

The Orange sounded ok, but after hearing the HBE and the Diezel it was just meh.

Yeah, the Rectos always sound kind of sloppy to me unless they're boosted. The Orange had the same kind of thing going on to me but to be fair the VH4 and HBE were a couple of tough acts to follow  I can't wait for the bigger ampfest with the Camerons and Fortins :inlove:

Exactly. I wouldn't kick the Orange out of bed...or my mancave. ;)

No way, me either. Kind of like a slightly homely chick, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference after 8 or so beers anyway

Yeah we are working on a huge amp shootout for possibly Dec 4th. I spoke with Dave and Rob at Tone Merchants today.

Hey James,I'll bring the Rockerverb 100 if needed

Now you had to go and make it complicated     That thing sounds beastly

HBE
I was surprise at the Orange
I think the dual rec does other stuff better
the VH4 sounded a lot like the HBE on ch 3 from what I heard

Don't forget to get a DAR Forza there, doesn't sound anything like the other heads IMO, all though you can dial it in so it's voiced more similar to the others as well too.

Also, not trying to be the asshole here, but I felt like the between the cab, mic, signal chain etc., there wasn't THAT much different in the sound of the amps if they were played in the mix, or even in general obviously I can hear the difference but much of the fundamental frequencies seem very much the same . While they all had a bit of a different gain structure, some more low end then others, some more hair fizzle etc., there are already so many similarities in the signal chain I think that any amp used with that setup is going to be given a similar character. That being said I think I dug the Friedman BE the best, the HBE was to hairy(figures right?) The Diezel I just wasn't digging that much, the mesa was to fizzy, and the orange was a bit to lose.

Cool stuff man! Looking forward to hearing more in the future!

The Orange sounded great. I have always like the Rockerverb. I tried one down at Wild West about 4 years ago. I probably would have bought one, but somebody said there were issues with reliability. I have come to find that is bullshit. The Orange is one of my favorite amps.

1. HBE
2. Orange...sweet amp. Tight yet complex sounding...if that makes sense.
3. BE
4. VHT
5. Boogie.

Thanks for posting James .....

I would like to see a few Fryette in there if you can.

Can anyone get a Peters to the next Shootout. Would love to hear a Chimera in that company.

People can bring any amp they want.

I think it would be cool if this time, maybe you had a few less amps, but spent a bit more time with each one and really dig into each channel.

Some amps I'd love to hear in this one would be:

Diezel Einstein
20th XTC with el34's
Baron K88 or B60/120
Peters
Fryette
Dirty Shirley
Naked
FJA modded 5150/recto
Mako preamp
CCV

Come on guys! Get some different amps to James for this one!

Clips sound great,I dig the Recto then the BE.

Yeah.........Modded Mesa is where its at!
My Modded FJA Recto's tone was incredible. Dare say.........PERFECT?
I know it smoked any other amp I have owned. Wish it would of been 100 watter.
But I have that problem being fixed right now.
