Was the Bogner Twin Jet a let down??

I was just wondering if anyone else felt that way about the Twin Jet. I don't mean this to be a negative to that amp because I love my Uberschal Blue Rev and Bogners in general. Maybe I just had different expectations on what it was supposed to be and do. I thought the Blue rev was heavier, warmer and more powerful and channel one was ok but a modded Marshall is way better. KT88s definately made it a tighter amp but I don't think overall it makes it better. Looking for some other opinions.

I had rev blue sold it, bought a twin jet sold it,Bought another rev blue just prefer it over the twin jet just like it better. Not that the tj was bad or anything I just think the rev blue is thicker and heavier sounding, but thats just me.

Yeah exactly, that's how i felt too. No doubt it was a really good amp but I guess the expectation was it was the Rev Blue but better. That was my expectation anyway.

The TJ is not a tight amp unless it is boosted so if it was supposed to be a lot tighter than an Uber, it was a let down in that area,IMO. I thought ch. 1 was really cool on the TJ, though.

Still loving my Rev2. Now a Rev2 with the power amp presence and depth controls would probably be the perfect amp.

Actually TJ was not where I hoped Bogner would go with Uber. With the Blue revision I had I always felt that the power amp wasn't powerful enough at really loud volumes to keep that sweet tone & feel to it, but I loved the amp, still would love to have one around just to enjoy the fun of playing it, it was just so much fun to play. The Uber I'd want would be 3 channel, with great cleans, versus blue's cleans, 2nd crunch channel kinda like blue channel 101b & 3rd channel like blue rev's 2nd channel & with a powerful transformer with 6 EL34s & midi. I also realized that it wasn't going to happen, because it would drive the cost up & they would have to price it about 4K or higher.

Either way, an amp with that amount of saturation & low end needs 6 power tubes. This is why Herbert doesn't crap out when you drive it loud, Now try pulling a pair of tubes out of it & see what happens.

Hard&Heavy,

I was actually dumb enough not to try the Uber through Herbert's power amp. Could you try this setup & report back?

I've been playing the uber rev blue for about 5 yrs and I love it. So I bought a tj with the intention of selling the blue a few months later, I played them back and forth side by side for a month and I ended up selling the tj. I liked my rev blue better, the tj was a little bit tighter and it was less compressed and seemed less saturated but I missed the warmth of the rev blue and it also seemed thicker sounding. The rev blue was smoother too.
The tj is a nice amp but I think it's less like the older ubers and should have been called something else, tj also seemed brighter to me. There's plenty of people that like it and it cures alot of probs people had with the older ones but it's also missing something I liked about the other ubers. I'm glad I kept my rev blue and I don't think I will go back to the tj.
I had to give it a try and hear them both together in the same room for myself.

I used to own a Rev 2 and Blue. Forumite se7en was kind enough to let me play his TJ and I loved it. When the Blue came out there were some things I liked about it over my Rev 2, but other things that seemed to have been taken away that I didn't like.

There definitely seems to be a pattern where each revision/version of Uberschall loses some fans and gains others.

Sort of reminds me of 2 channel Dual Rec users not liking any of the newer designs.

any uberschall is awesome to me, u can pretty much give me any one of the revs and id be happy with it......all the ubers can totaly get that metal tone i have in my head, its prob my fav amp ever honestly

but yea the twin jet doesnt really remind me of the earlier ubers, the rev blue was what made me want an uberschall.

when i plugged into the twin jet i honestly didnt even think it sounded like an uberschall at all, it didnt really have that "wall of sound" characteristic to it.....and the amp just felt alot different from the rev blues

it was a bit more aggressive sounding and didnt seem as dark as the rev blues did, but overall i ended up liking it a bit more than the othr ubers

the other ubers had a hiss that always sat in the backround which i always noticed but tuned out, i could live with it but the tj doesnt have it and im glad....... i love my twin jet, i prob wont be buying another amp for a while now

I really liked the TJ when I first got it, a lot more then the prior versions of the Uber (I've had them all). The lead tone IMO is much better then all the earlier versions - thick and singing. The TJ also had the mids that all other versions of the Uber lacked, so it got great rock (not just metal) tones.

The thing I didn't like about it was that 'cocked wah' sound that I couldn't dial out. It was like a parametric eq was always stuck on. Once I heard it, I couldn't un-hear it and it bugged the hell out of me. Plus it lack the dynamics and touch sensitivity of some other high gain amps. I also could not get a decent tone out of the 1st channel at all.

I'm just not that into the pummeling high gain tones anymore anyway, so I'm giving up on the Ubers for now, but I would have kept it around if I was still chasing that sound. And FWIW, I honestly thought the 2nd channel was pretty comparable to the EVH 5150 III red channel. They have a lot of very similar characteristics.

i sure hope it isnt going to be a let down since i just ordered one! but judging from your replies of it being tighter and brighter than the older ubers, it sounds like something i want in a more aggressive amp. cant wait to run mine together with the herbert!

Thats probably more in the transformer design itself and the way the power section is built than merely the number of output tubes. I've played enough 6 tube Triple Recs that were typically sloppy sounding.

The Triple rec wasn't that bad in my experience, it definitely wasn't as powerful as the Herbert. You might be exactly right, all I can say is that as a player I felt it didn't have the balls necessary when it was loud.

Was there ever a rev 1 or something before the rev 2 Uber?
