Watching a Def Leppard concert on TV sad

I saw Billy idol open for Def leppard a few years ago. I really enjoyed Billy and his band outstanding show. DL were ok but the sound was terrible and the bass way too loud but good show none the less. Agree at my age 50 plus I am not crazy about watching a shirtless Collen parade around ,hey good for him he looks in great shape but it was kind of silly.

Out of all the 80's players, Vivian Campbell and Gary Moore are my favorites. I once met Vivian at a local sub shop. Totally normal guy. Not that it was a surprise, but, his favorite guitarist is Rory Gallagher. The way Phil Collen carries-on as though he's "the man" is quite hilarious.

Vivian is or at least was a Gary Moore clone back in the day. When Gary Moore passed on the Dio gig Ronnie got Campbell who admittedly worshiped Moore. Gary Moore was HUGE in their home country.

Vivian to keep will always be Dio to me. To this day, I still get goosebumps when I hear the solo to Last in Line.

I'm glad Def Leppard are still out doing what they love. That is really all that matters. Nobody is going to hear Rush's "The Trees" at their concert. It is supposed to be a fun rock show.

He never mentioned Gary, and I understood why. If you're as familiar with Rory Gallagher's music as I am, then you would know, just by listening, that Gary Moore's main influence was Rory Gallagher. This is true with nearly every Irish born blues/rock guitarist from that era. English born as well. A lot of people are unaware of Rory's influence, so you're not alone. Jimi Hendrix once called Rory the greatest guitarist in the world.

All Irish lead players will give credit to Rory as the earliest ‘hometown’ influence. Out of respect of course. From the Gallagher stuff I’ve listened to, Gary Moore has literally nothing in common with Rory Gallagher other than being countrymen. Same with Vivian.
When it comes to playing style. But, I haven’t listened to everything from Rory; maybe there’s more out there that translates better to Gary’s stuff.

Huge VC fan, I'm sure everyone has seen the Vivian Cambell and friends live concert, I believe this was shortly after Dio departure. Pretty epic playing and some singing. Def Leppard, wow, do they even play Lady Strange anymore? I'd be shocked. I actually heard that live with PC 1st tour opening for Billy Squire lol. Was decent, but I dont know why they cheesed out so bad. The $ speaks. Dudes over 50 should leave shirts on. It's just stupid looking. Whatever. Get some fake pecs and abs with your millions, what else you gonna spend it on at this point. Vivian paid his getting fucked dues so the DL story is cool for him in that regard. Says it was Wendy and the LIL tour grossed 8 million or more and He , Jimmy, and Vinnie were getting paid less than roadies. Sad, who knows. I remember reading while he was in Dio , he quoted" Gary Moore was a better player than EVH and if he were from the states would be recognized as so, interesting. So obviously he dug GM, I always felt his legato was influenced from Moore and that raw edge to his playing. Killer player, PC titanium floyd and titts can keep on with HIFI, not as captivating IMO. Between Ronnie James Dio and Vivian, it was hard to determine who was creating the drama after he left. Viv got burned out on the medieval dragon stuff and I'm sure RJD was frustrated when he wanted to leave and took it personal.

I was a bit shocked when Last in Line came out because I didn't think Viv would want to revisit that music. The music was really good! I've always loved his style, tone, etc.

I wish they could have done some music together before he passed but that ship sailed obviously.

Totally agree and that's not a shot at Viv I love his playing but he even talks about his worship of Gary Moore`s playing in an issue of Rock Candy a few years ago . At 3:05 here that might as well be Gary
