One of my all-time favorite records.I thought Victims of the Future was a hell of an album. Guess Vivian didn't like that one.

When I hear Vivian with Dio the first thing I am reminded of is Gary Moore's Victims of the Future record. Campbell going for the exact same thing. I would bet he listened to VOTF quite a bit. That type of playing was cutting edge and very current at the time. Sounds like some revisionist history to me.I thought Victims of the Future was a hell of an album. Guess Vivian didn't like that one.
Mine as well...my first album of his that I bought, at 16. Still listen to it today. One of my all-time favorite records.

Absolutely love that album. My favorite from GaryOne of my all-time favorite records.
I know Viv is a huge fan but I’ve never heard the Rory influence in his playing. But I’d definitely be interested in a few of Rory’s songs where he borrowed a few things. I’ve got some Rory CDs but I’ve never made the connection. Nice glamour shot ?I hear more Rory Gallagher in Vivian's playing than I do Gary Moore.
Creepy photo....

Huge VC fan, I'm sure everyone has seen the Vivian Cambell and friends live concert, I believe this was shortly after Dio departure. Pretty epic playing and some singing. Def Leppard, wow, do they even play Lady Strange anymore? I'd be shocked.
In my world - they still do.....
You'll dig this... Vivian Campbell plays/sings Rory Gallagher's "Calling Card".I know Viv is a huge fan but I’ve never heard the Rory influence in his playing. Vivian Campbell and Friends.
Vivian plays Rory's version of "Messin With The Kid" on his 'Vivian Campbell and Friends' GIT clinic session. That was very cool , tasty playing. Thanks for posting that
Yeah you lost me here...maybe somewhat with his 'shred' albums but most of his career consisted of the right notes in the right places, every time. Neither Rory nor Viv had the fierce 'attack' that Gary had; nor the vibrato which is the best in the business IMO. Gary never missed a note but could get 'frenetic' in some of his 80s tunes or playing live.I enjoyed listening to Gary Moore back in my drinking days, but not anymore. Gary had a tendancy to needlessly overplay on nearly everything he did. His playing dynamics reminds me of the partygoer who always has to be the loudest head in the room.![]()

After listening to some Rory stuff, it's very cool and nice but nothing really stands out to me. Nice bluesy rock stuff...being that my ancestors are from County Mayo it's nice to learn about another Irish guitar slinger.
Vivian is great in his own way/style..not really a shredder compared to others in that era but he has GREAT vibrato and note placement...I've always been a fan.
But Gary Moore will ALWAYS be in my top 5 guys EVER...neither Rory nor Viv make that list..not taking anything away from them but they aren't in Gary's league. Sorry.
Racerated, dude when I think of internet nameOh yeah?
Well then what about Joe Perry and the Brad guy?
I don’t care if you’re Yngwe, Joe Perry was born the lead guitar player, you hear those killer variety of guitar tones he always pulls?
He also has the looks to pull the wicked lead guitar player flavor of the vibe.
That Phil tool can go eat crow.
You ever wonder why Kirk stayed the lead guitarist in Metallica?
Because James ain’t letting’ no Mustaine type dude’s in the band handing him his ass in the mix.
Who the hell would, ya feel me?
