Well I've never been a tuned to the Cameron sound but when I went to Superunknown's house a few years ago and played his Ocean I fell in love with it. Been passively looking for one ever since and I finally saw one, an '03 100w JCM800 with the works. So I pulled the trigger. It arrived today with one of the greatest packing jobs I've ever seen, fired it up and was blown away. Holy smokes. Absolutely incredible. I'm in an all day writing session but have been jumping out every hour or so and playing it for 5 minutes. It's incredible sounding. Perfect crunch, no fuzz. Just the right amount of gain for me. Incredibly powerful sounding. So articulate without sounding sterile. Just amazing. Looks great too. I uploaded a video with distorted camera audio but gives you a glimpse at our initial reaction. I will make real clips ASAP. Anyway, what a massive and elegant sounding amp. I'm blown away. I can't wait to record it.

Congrats James!!!

How does it compare to the bogner? I've always wanted to play an ocean. I always thought cameron's marshall flavors were steps above his signature amplifiers.

It's nothing like the Bogner. Honestly I can't really describe it. Very full and massive. It feels like a record. I'm not a fan of those super gainy sounds and IMO they usually record terribley. Unless you are doing super extreme metal which I don't ever do. The amp is impecible sounding. So articulate and consice but not sterile. Super vibey. Honestly it doesn't sound like a CCV or Jose at all. More natural to my ears. I will know better the more I play and record it.

It sounds already great from the quick camera video

It would be interesting to hear it against your Friedman Marshall

Wait until you pull the master out or have you already. Ugh Oh he did :m17: not. Pulling the master adds tons of rip. Look out

Yeah I feel ya. Cannot wait for the recorded clips. I am a big fan of surgically tight and surgically defined amplifiers with a clean top end/nothing sitting on top of the gain. My next step is to get that extended low end tightness/punch.

I know you will make the best of that cameron. Without playing one I cannot say much of anything, but from the clips I have never heard an ocean mod that did not sound leaps and bounds above jose's and a slew of other models on the market

Interesting. Mark told me earlier this year that the Ocean and Jose mods are exactly the same. Perhaps you are just hearing the effect of the mod being different on this particular amp from the other Jose's you've played, or perhaps Mark just wasn't being completely honest with me.

There is some lore about it. It is a different type of Jose. One gain, instead of two. Less gain in the preamp as well. It has been posted that Aldrich played a similar amp and said to Mark it sounded like waves crashing at the Ocean or something like that. It was a lower gain Jose with some differences. Still considered a high gain mod though.

I had a real Jose at my place for a while, the red plexi from Hollywood Rental. That was way gainier and leaner sounding.

Congratz James. That amp sounds like a helluva lot of fun

Crappy clips or not, there's something super strong and potent in how that head sounds. Awesome man!!

I was going to say that that amp sounds exactly like the hg/lg jose I just picked up in the 3rd notch position on the 5 way switch.. identical almost

  Definitely some differences in the room  Both were killer. The Ocean had less gain with no clipping and a little different mid structure. It does have a push pull on the master that was not a bright switch. I think it added a gain stage. Definitely two different sounding heads with Jose similarities.

BITCHIN !!! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Lets hear a shootout with the Cameron & 71' Freidman ...

Bouncing down a clip now. Man I f'n love this head. I can only imagine what it must sound doubled. So clear and tight.
