Looking to spend around 500-800 ish just looking for a reliable amp 50-100 watts that can do , tragedy , his hero is gone , dystopia sounding stuff for a new project .

Something in the 5150 family tree. I played in a d-beat band for years, my rig typically being a 6505+ and Dual Rectifier in stereo. Then I did the HM2 thing for while too, and my amps of choice swapped around often. You can really make about anything work, but a 5150 will do about anything you need in that realm.

VTM sounds great with an HM2, but I wouldn't do the HM2 thing for FAR, Tragedy, arena crust, etc. It tends to muddy things up too much.

That's true but most modern HM2 clones have a blend feature now.

Which makes it really easy to dial in for that sound without getting too muddy

Check out the Zoom Tri Metal. It does that sort of thing really good, maybe even better than the HM-2

ah I havent had any clones. I got a tiny pile of the old ones and just ran two amps, one HM2, and one amp gain as my method to "blend", haha
