So I’ll qualify this by saying of course nothing beats a great LP but given Gibson’s QAQC of late....let’s hear ‘em!

I always hear about Gibson making garbage but never seem to play any. Sure there are duds but who doesn’t have those? I’ve been on vacation since Wednesday and have played a ton of Gibson’s and so far they’ve all been pretty nice guitars. I tried a knaggs finally. Wasn’t blown away. Tier 2 kenai. Nice guitar but didn’t stand out as 4K nice. Every single guitar is different. Go with what speaks to you when it’s in your hands.

I've owned MANY LPs... just bought 4 new Historic LPs in the last 3 months and they have been better than ever. QC is on par with just about any other brand. Try a new one (2016+) or a few to find on that sounds great.

If I wanted to spend extra for something custom: Nik Huber or Johan Gustavsson. But be prepared for a wait. ;)

2001 PRS Singlecut
Got rid of my LP Standard after I bought it.
Played many others over the years and none have touched it.

Don’t get me wrong guys. I have an ‘82 Standard i’d put up against anything...absolutely killer axe, but I’ve played several different models lately and have been very underwhelmed. I’m looking at other brands now.

I have two Bacchus handmade LP's that I paid $850 and $1050 for, and they're both absolutely killer. I've only owned 3 Gibson LP's, but these are better than any of them, and I'd put them up against any other LP I've played. Same goes for my two Bacchus Flying V's. Amazing bang for the buck.

I dig my 2003 ales Paul R8, but I rarely ever play it. I most play my Charvel San Dimas which kills it. lol

ESP Eclipse!
Excellent guitars (the old Standard series at least), but not really similar to a Gibson LP, sound quite different for reasons.

Huber guitars I'd say. Curious about Navigator.

But who can resist a sweet R9 and an R0? :D

For a few years I rocked a Guild Bluesbird AAA that sounded better than almost every production LP I’ve played. I still have it but I did buy some Gibson’s (R9/R0/68RI/Slash) that are righteous.

I had a mid 80s Ibanez Artist Super Edition ( fancy inlays and coil taps/series/parallel ) that was AWESOME !

Well, I absolutely love my '68RIs, but I've been playing these Gibson Explorers I picked a few months ago more and more. I didn't buy them to replace my LPCs, but they resonate more than any other guitar I've played, and they sound awesome. So they haven't killed my LPCs, but in some instances, I could understand playing the Explorers in place of the LPCs. The Explorers have a more "immediate" attack than the LPs, and they sound every bit as thick...but they're no heavier than 7 pounds!

I’m not a Les Paul guy. I love the look and tone of a great Les Paul, I just don’t like playing them.

I’d take just about anything over them. Strat, Tele, SG, Flying V, Explorer....
