What amps are currently in your stable?

What speakers are you using in that Peavey Vypyr?
I've been trying to play mine through my 412's since I've resituated speakers and it sounds way too woofy on most of the high gain stuff. Even with the bass on 0 I can't dial it out. All the cleaner style amp models sound fine though. Maybe my 412's are just too bassey for it and I need to resituate one of my open back 212's for it.

FYI - I finally got around to plugging the Vypyr 60 into my Mesa Trad 4x12. Let me put it to you this way. The cabinet made the amp sound better (fuller w more bass as you pointed out). However, the amp itself did not necessarily make the cabinet sound its best if that makes sense. What I forgot is that the Vypyr's speaker is also on which is good and does balance it out a bit.

I haven't played the Vypyr in a bit. The last time I did I was starting to balance things out. I think I had the pre and post gain too high. Once I backed off those it got better. It was still a bit bass heavy, but manageable. One thing I didn't do was play with the voicing. I may have it set on Default or Darker voicing. Setting it to one of the brighter ones may help.

I don't know if you're aware since I don't recall it being in the manual. I got this off the old Peavey forum.

Software version 1.58 or later of the first generation Vypyr (Not VIP!) will allow cab/eq swaps. To do the swaps, hold down one of the preset buttons when powering up. The choices are:

1. Default voicing
2. Darker voicing on all models
3. Brighter voicing on all models
4. Brighter for the 60W, 120W and 100W. Darker on the Head, 30W and 75W models.

I didn't know that. Where would I see those options though?

I don't think you really "see" the options. It's more like one of those hidden feature things; kind of like when you get the light show if you don't plug a cable in the input jack.

Just hold down one of the preset buttons when you turn the amp on. I think it flashes a couple of times then you can let go. If you want to switch just turn the amp off and repeat the process holding a different preset button. It is a pretty noticeable difference between the voicings.

I currently have:

Mesa TC50 w/ Mesa 2x12 vertical V30s
Marshall 1959HWSLP (master volume and selectable bright cap mods) w/ 1960a cab that I swapped the GT12/75s for Greenbacks
Have a JTM45 reissue but its at a consignment shop.
Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

Truth be told, I have not turned them on but once or twice in the past year, I pretty much only use my fractal stuff anymore.

Here we go...Dougs Tubes outta NY matched these better than anything I've ever heard of. These are matched so tight that they all were the exact same except one was 1mA off. Note the getters on the bottom.

Wow - do you guys own studios?
In my case, just a home studio that never gets enough use. I bought so many amps over the years just because they seemed like good deals. Then spent the last year slowly selling them again.

Either way, the people most likely to respond to threads like this are probably major outliers.

'94 Laney GH100L
Mesa 90s Dual Rec Reissue
5e3 kit that I've butchered with mods

Ceriatone Yeti
Ceriatone FAS100
Peavey 5150
Mesa MW triple rectifier

Well, being one of the forum "poors," I have the following.... lol! I jest. I have to balance guitar with my other expensive addictions such as photography and shooting... both of which make guitar gear seem affordable...lol!

EVH 5150 III 100 Stealth w/ EVH 412 cab (NASA command center pedalboard for this rig)
Friedman Runt 50 w/ Lynch Mod and matching 212 cab (just wah, vibe, overdrive and delay on this board)
Quad Cortex w/ Laney LFR-212
Kemper Stage MK II w/ Laney LFR-212

I haven't had the chance to use the Friedman live yet. When my new band get to the point where I need to worry about live playing it will be either the EVH or on of the digital rigs depending on the show. I need to find a good classic rock gig to use the Friedman in.

How do you like the D.Kowalski Green and Red? They seem like pretty neat low watt amps, but I never got around to trying them. I was on his page about a month ago and saw he has a 10 watt class A called the Enigma that seems pretty interesting too.
