I think it is a great unit. It does sound really good direct and for effects with an amp.
(There is one in the classified right now for $345, which is a steal)
I think it is a great tool and the effects are excellent.
The amp models take a bit of tweaking, but they sound great.
Plus, Line 6 will be doing updates all the time as per customers requests in the near future.
To me, it's a no brainer compared to the AxeFx.

This is a really small clip I did direct with the HD500 to show long panned delays and a subtle phaser.
Gain control was just the volume on my guitar.

That sounds nice man. What amp model were you using?

It's 2 amps. The treadplate(recto) and the JCM800.

I'm going to have to wait until Monday to place my order.

Ah, yeah with tax it would be close to 440 here in Tennessee. I didn't take that into account.

Yeah, at 425 its a great price, can't really hurt to try it at that price, if anything if you sell it you can get your money back most likely  Can't wait to try it out to use for just night time playing

The link I posted was a price match...did this work for you? you get it at $425? If so, cool! You could break even or close to it if you decided to sell it, not sure what the return policy maybe 30 days? even better, just the cost of return shipping.

So, I guess it's no longer available at 425 USD.

What price was that website trying to match? I was hoping to place an order this morning, but I don't have the full 500, and I'm really not wanting to pay that much in the first place.

I have no clue what it was trying to match, but it was most likely a 20% off coupon online, I'm sure they would come around again, especially with Black Friday coming up theres going to be tons of coupons I assume.

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for a Black Friday sale. I'm too impatient.

Sounds good. Which cabs do you like in that thing? I remember only liking 2 or 3 of them.

Picked one up yesterday at Guitar Center. I had put a used Ibanez Universe on layaway about a month ago and decided I really didn't need another guitar. So I got the HD500 instead. I'm mainly going to use it for effects as a backup to my G-System. I can use the 500 with my stereo rig at rehearsal and leave that rig there and keep my G-System stereo rig at home and use it for gigging. I haven't even had a chance to plug into the 500 yet. Looking forward to messing with it over the Thanksgiving weekend. Happy Thanksgiving everybody. Gobble gobble.

I think I'm going to be using the 15% off coupon I got in an email from GC tomorrow to order an HD500 online. I've heard there's limitations on some products, including Line 6, but since the email doesn't specify, I can probably call into the customer service line and raise hell if I run into any problems.

If anybody sees any great deals or coupons available that could be used on a POD HD500 today, PM me or post them here. I'm going to try to get it online from Guitar Center, but the website is being a pain in the ass, and I might need a backup plan in case me bitching doesn't get through their heads on the hotline.

whats your idea of a great deal?

Anything cheaper than the normal price tag, and thanks for the PM! BUT, I finally was able to get the coupon to work for Guitar Center over the phone because it wouldn't work online. It's going to be on back order for a couple days, but should be heading my way afterwards. I paid a hair under 470 USD altogether with taxes... and if someone told me a year ago that I'd be paying that much for anything branded "Line 6", I would have had some unfriendly words to say about it.

This thing better live up to it's price tag and reviews! :gethim:

I just got mine late Wednesday night. Finally spent a little time with it last night. My goals for this unit are to use as an emergency unit in case my amp rig goes down at a show, running it direct to PA for small club gigs, jams and rehearsals and as a strictly effects unit to run in a 4 cable method to have as a backup to my G-System. I run a 5150 III and I want a descent High gain sound out of the POD that will be close to the sound my band is used to. I got a nice patch setup with the Bogner Uber model that will work great as a Hard Rock/Metal sound. This was just through headphones mind you. Pretty easy to navigate around and program everything once I played with it for awhile. The main test was going to be today. I took it up to our rehearsal studio a little while ago to run it direct to our PA. We have a full JBL Pro PA system with full JBL monitor system, Crown power amps and a Midas soundboard. A pretty good system to test the POD and give it a workout. I was using my Ibanez Prestige 7-String. Hooked up the POD in stereo with the XLR left and Right outs, set the switch to line and set the output to direct in the main menu. What sounded great on the headphones was garbage through the PA and I knew it would be like that. It was bass boomy with piercing high end and scooped sounding. It was going to have to be tweaked totally different for running direct to a PA. We basically set the EQ flat on the Midas board. I had to turn the bass and mid knobs both all the way off on the POD. The mid knob was basically acting as a treble knob. When I would turn it up it added a lot of highs. Not a mid high but high end. The tone lacked any mid punch and cut that could not be added just from the tone control knobs. Once I got the boomyness of the bass and treble from hell under control it was time to get some mid punch and cut in there. I used the Graphic EQ model and added some low mid and hi mids which gave it the added punch and cut to stand out in a live mix and now I was in business. Very pleasing chunky rhythm tone. My singer who is also a live sound man was very impressed with the unit. Between the two of us we got it sounding very nice. I think some further tweaking could be done with the other EQ models like the 4Band Shift EQ with the LoMid and HiMid parameters and also the Mid Focus Eq model to really dial in the mids needed for high gain guitar signals to stand out in a live mix. I wanna try running two amp models together and see what kind of tones I can get as well. Overall I am pretty pleased with the POD and would feel comfortable doing a small club show with it direct to a PA and as a backup to my rig.

I got the HD500 today, and I can't seem to get a decent high-gain tone through these headphones. I haven't really had enough time with it to make a decision though. So far, I'm still skeptical about PODs, and I'm a little disappointed that a 500 USD piece of a equipment hasn't impressed me right out of the package, but tomorrow I might be able to spend more time trying to get it right.
