What brand of strings are you using these days?

I used the Ernie Ball Slinkys Green pack (10-42) for probably something like 10 years and i just recently switched to what i think just might be the best strings i've ever fucking played!

DR Strings Dimebag Darrell Medium Top Heavy Bottom (Gauges 10-52)

I was hesitant at first for a few reasons:
would i be able to still tune to standard? (those are some chunky fucking strings!)
do i really want to use "signature" strings? (seems kind of cheesy to me)

i'm not sure what it is but these string sound great plugged in or even just playing unplugged and they really allow me to tune to everything from standard to drop Bb

i haven't been excited about strings in a long time...maybe ever

I use Curt Mangan 10s and 9.5s depending on the guitar. Ill use D'addarios or DRs if I'm at a store where I can't get them.

dadarios lose their "newness" for me after a couple of days, I quit useing them about a year ago when I sent an email to them questioning why they would wear out like that even on a guitar that isnt played at all. After no response I found a new string supplier the EB Slinky's stay newer to me and longer. Even on my guitar played everday I can go for months and they still have the new slick feel to them.

I was changing daddario's every week to every other week. Even on the old squier start which I rarely play (maybe 20 minutes a month if that)

Interestingly I have exactly the opposite experience. the Slinkys seem to break and get dull very very fast. I get much more life out of the D'Addarios.

BTW do you wipe down your strings when you are done playing? I find it helps extend the life of any string....

I'm using GHS boomers because we have an endorsement with them. Strings were never a big deal to me...except for Blue Steel...never liked those.

I have a trial back of the curt Mangan's, but have not tried them? Are they worth the extra money over D'Addario's?

Also interestingly enough I see no snake oil string users in this thread....

D'Addario EXL120 (.009-.042) strings for me because they sound and feel best, IMO. Not to mention that they last ok-ish time according to my experiences with different strings. My sweat eats strings fast and after only one five hour practise session strings get black-ish and after 3-5 such sessions they're rusty.

I am doing D'Addario .010-.046 in Eb tuning. Cheap comfortable strings and they last a long time for me.

Currently have 3 guitars loaded with 3 different sets (all 10-52s):

Strat: Dean Markleys
Explorer: D'adarios
Kramer: GHS Mustaines

Just given them all a playtest, I think I like the Mustaines best, then the Markleys and the D'adarios.

This is going to sound horrible, but I'm using GHS Jammers (yes, thats the Wal-mart brand) but I've had great luck with them and haven't broken one yet. They don't go dead sounding as quickly as some other strings I've used. I'm thinking they are just re-packaged GHS Boomers though..... Oh well, they are cheap and easy to find.

I got on to these a few months ago.
Sound great...tone lasts way longer...don't break strings on stage anymore.

To me they are worth an extra buck or two. They are definitely worth a try. If you wanted to be a little cheaper I would put the mangans on my main guitars and get some cheaper daddarios for your extra guitars. If you break strings alot they are a very durable string. I have a friend that would snap daddarios on his pedal steel all the time but the mangans hold up to the abuse.

All though strings are one of the most subjective things around so you might not even like them haha.

ELECTRICS>
Blue Steel 10-46 have replaced my long-time use of Fender XL150s over the last year or so.

ACOUSTICS>
I have a new love & addiction for Elixir acoustic strings! They were on the new Taylor I bought last year, and after they wore down....I put one of my usual choices on there.......only to find how much nicer the guitar was with those Elixirs. After putting another new set of those on there.....I had on of the bigger 'String Revelations' in recent years!

Elixir 10s, sound great and last and feel good for a long time. I use to use Slinky's, Daddario. and Dm blue steels.

My favorite is GHS Boomers, but D'addarios are cheaper by the case, so I've been using them a lot lately. 9's on Strats 10's on Les Pauls.

mostly use D'Addarios and Dean Markleys as they seem to break far less often than GHS or Ernie Ball.

right now I'm using D'Addario 10-46's in standard tuning

I've been using Rotosound pure blues .010-.052. For me, they're comfy, long lasting, and sound great.

When I got home this weekend I was rocking this evil sounding set of 12-50/52(?) from Ernie Ball.
The guitar is tuned to C or something; I have no idea, really. I tend to not really care these days, as far as strings and such. I get more enjoyment out of beating the crap out of the strings and making noise.

My twang a dang stratocaster is setup with the only strings that really work on it. Something like 9-42... Brand is Ernie Ball. Not really loyal to the name, but they last a good while and are quite cheap.
