what builder do you think makes the absolute best guitars?

For me, hands down, it's Tom Anderson.

I should also add that I've played relatively few Suhr guitars.

Having never played a really high end guitar, I would assume this:

The really high end guitars are probably all very similar. Anderson, Hondo, Suhr..... ;) :D

From what I've played, LIBERATORE, Suhr, Vigier. anderson seems to be kickass also. They were all effortless to play, had a massive tone, but most imporantly... I looked like I was good

I'd love to have a Liberatore. The guys in Neuraxis play them I believe.

Yeah, he just got it last summer tho.
Daniel mongrain from martyr plays 'em as well as Stephane Dufour (local guitarist, played with Eric Lapointe amongst all)

Probably some unknown 70 year old guy who works in a rickety old wooden shack. And he uses lanterns not electricity. He's got a thick grey beard and wears bifocals and he gently rubs down each and every neck by hand, cuts his own bodies from the trees he chops down himself in the magical forest where he carefully selects the tone woods from feeling and smelling the trees.

And all the tools he used are passed down from generations of luthiers within his family.

Ok enough with TGP fantasy nonsense. I'll just go with Anderson. But if you want a quilt that makes your Grandma jealous, then Suhr seems to put out more consistent "pretty" tops. :D

Egh, Anderson or Suhr, can't go wrong with either, just use your EARS.

Best how? Look? Feel? Tone? Some guitars look terrific, but sound and feel ok. Others look kinda playing but play and sound awesome.

Gibson Electric Guitars from 1958-1963 where the best IMO. Something about that stretch that was insane.

That said the finest best sounding guitar I ever played was a beat 1951 Fender No Caster at my buddy Gil Southworths house. It was off the charts good. I should of bought it for the $9500 he offered to me for back in 1995. I have dreams of that guitar.

For modern stuff Suhr and Tom Anderson are neck and neck good.

I've never played an Anderson but I love my Suhr Moderns to death.

D-Frats, that plaintop Surh Modern is AMAZING. wow...

Gotta love a good plaintop. understated and classic looking. That gives a cool, old vibe to a modern guitar.

Thanks Nick. That's exactly what I was going for. That Warmoth you just built looks amazing.

I saw this very scary man build a house with 6" of frayed rope and some candle wax. I bet this guy has never seen a paved road.

Hamer.

I agree with Vlad though, I am through looking for GQ pretty guitars.

Tom Anderson, John Suhr, Lee Garver, Itaru Kanno, Patrice Vigier, etc. Too hard to just say one guy is the "best" IMO.

I've played some drop-dead gorgeous guitars that were... well... meh.. .ok. Completely cured my GAS as soon as I laid my hands on it and plugged in.

+10000000000 on that

yeah, some of them are nice...most of them don't live up to the hype..and usually the ones that do sound and play nice still aren't worth the extra cost they bring in..least, not in my opinion they don't..
