Reaper! It's so robust, it's free to start. They load it up with TONS of usable plugs. Their website has dozens of great how to videos to get you started. The actual purchase price is only like $100, forever. They have patches weekly.
That's a great question and one that I'm sure many people have asked before. Fortunately, there are lots of good DAWs available for Windows. If you don't have one already, you can check out reddit buy windows to snag a copy. It really just comes down to finding the one that best suits your needs and prefs. There are also lots of gr8 free options out there, like Audacity and Reaper. If you're lookin' to keep costs down, these might be good places to start. The best advice I can give is to try out a few diff DAWs and see which one you like the best.
