Calling Don Barzini :hys:

"When I graduated from Harvard and moved to Hollywood, I was unemployable. I was literally starving, so I had to work menial labour and, at one point, I even worked as an exotic dancer. 'Brick House' (by The Commodores) was my jam! I did bachlorette parties and I'd go down to my boxer shorts. Would I go further? All I can say is thank God it was in the time before YouTube! You could make decent money doing that job – people do what they have to do[6]."

[If he locked himself in a room with a metronome for 6 months i bet he'd have the chops of Lynch or Vai. Let me hear Lynch or Vai write anywhere NEAR as cool a riff off anything from the first RATM album. Writing songs and riffs are what 99% of the world considers talent, not the physical ability to play a C Minor scale in triplets up and down the neck. That bores the shit out of most any who isn't a guitar player, and most guitar players as well.

Abso-FUCKIN-lutetly!!!!

Great post!

Hard to believe him and Adam Jones were in the same band at one time.

He does his thing ... Has no where NEAR any talent compared to most real "guitar players" out there (George Lycnh - Steve Vai- EVH .... "L E A D " players - guys that can "play a solo") but he does have a feel - he way over uses FX too... just my 2 cents...

But I can understand how some like his "feel"...

Keith
No way man. He can shred it up pretty good. Probably as good as a lot of the 80's guys that were famous for it. But he has more substance than that. He can write amazing riffs! That's what really counts. And yeah he uses his fx alot, but in a very innovative way. It's part of his sound. Until you see RATM live, you have no idea the energy and power of his playing.

Listen to the solo around 2:20. One of my favorite RATM songs. Anyone saying he should play traditional shred and scales and shit, well here it is. Cleaner than a lot of the 80's guys IMO.

in rage, he fits. he can shred too, and is a good guitar player. i've learned to try and not judge players and music in general by video or tv clips as there is a lot of variables that can make it sound not so good even if it does live.

but with cornell, i thought audioslave was mostly an audiodisaster. that fucking "REEEE REEEE REEEE WEEE EREEEEE WEEE REEEE" on EVERY song..just ruining cornells songwriting....ugh.

it's like him and dimebag bet on who could over use whammy pedal setting "double octave" the most....

and we all lose!

I really like his guitar stuff, really does stuff no one else ever has. He works well in HIS bands, not so much in others. As a person, and what he stands for personally, I would not piss on him if he was on fire.

"What Do You Think Of Tom Morello"

Overrated. Always thought he was. Do I dislike him as a player? Not totally. I dig a lot of what he did with RATM. Even still....way overrated.

Anyone that doesn't like Tom has never seen RATM live.

I loves me some RATM.

I like Tom Morello and think he's an innovator. Then I heard this clip with Springsteen and feel a helluva lot better about my own playing, such as it is......

Overrated at what exactly? As part of the band RATM he was a perfect fit and they were really good for a time there in the 90's. At first i hated them but his playing grew on me. And he is a closet shredder, or fan of shred at least. He said in an interview once where he dragged some friends of his to a G3 show.

I thought he played some great solo's on the RATM first album including using his sound effects more tastefully..

2nd album I only liked Year of the Boomerang..

Thought his cover of Brick in the wall was great with Layne Staley

Yep Class of 99 with Morello, Staley and the dudes from Janes Addiction/ Porno for Pyro's..

No other songs that I know of.. Because I thought Layne died before the song was actually released and I do not think he was actually in the video for that song with the group..

I think he needs to loosen his strap a little and lay off the Whammy pedal. But, that's just me. He was lucky to hook up with Chris Cornell.
