What does “clean” mean to you?

I completely forgot about the Hiwatt... David Gilmour, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, changed my perception of the universe the first time I heard that.

Which made me realize that I don't really consider Hiwatts to be all that clean. To me, that's getting into pushed territory, at least the way I use them. I'd consider most Blackface Fenders that way, like a Super Reverb on about 6, most Blondes, Browns, and some Tweeds, too, although many Tweeds are just plain dirty. AC30s really fall into this category, too. All are capable of great cleans, just that may not be their best sound for my playing.

And I agree, there are at least 5540 types of cleans... and Eric Johnson mastered them all.

I’m hoping to design a drop in solid state clean sort of like how Jeremy offers a drop in tube option. Just a different flavor for people that like solid state. Ideally I’d like to have tube gain but SS clean all in the same amp.

Or maybe just offer an insert loop that you can put your own pedal/source and it “acts” like a clean? 🤔

That's an intriguing idea... there's a reason all those JC120s are still around, among many others. I'd add Peavey to that list, they had some great sounding SS amps back in the day, at least for cleaner sounds. And the old Lab Series from Gibson... not sure I'd call BB King's sound exactly clean, but damn... sure was a powerful sound, not to mention Ty Tabor.

My favorite clean channel is the Suhr PT100. Plexi transformers but the clean channel is Fender ish but with a mids knob that brings a load of tones. I like a lot of mids in my cleans, but I want that bell like response of the Fender too. The Buxom Betty is my second favorite of all the amps I’ve owned…
