No way I could pick a fav EVH solo, rhythm...anything really.
Too much greatness.
Although, I'd pick Hot for Teacher as my fav song just because it's the first EVH video and song I remember being aware of.
Ed and his bro brought so many memorable moments.
If I had a fav, it'd be from 1984.

'Beat it' was a really good solo DBN. The fact that Eddie helped Michael Jackson rearrange the song to make it more impactful again just shows you his genius.

The Balance tone was a pretty phenomenal tone and seemed exemplary of his tone quest in the 90's. I mean, the album came out in 1995. One could argue that EVH 2.0 started on the Diver Down album but it was the 1984 album that was his first one done in the 5150 studio. He wanted to have more control over his tone and it showed. Obviously, by the time Sammy joined and the album 5150 came out he was in full blown EVH 2.0 mode. Not worse. Not better. Just different.

EVH 1.0 (VH1, VHII, WACF, Fair Warning) - raw, crunchy, 'less melodic and harmonized' for lack of a better way of saying it. Had more of a single or double track feel.

EVH 2.0 (Diver Down, 1984, 5150, OU812, FUCK, Balance) more multi-track, chorus, harmonizer, melodies, wall of sound thing. Still had a lot of crunch of course.

Anyone what to change that up a bit or is that pretty close?

If we’re going to talk favorite tones then VH I, then II, then Fair Warning, then Diver Down, then 1984, then the Me Wise Magic, Can’t Get This Stuff No More, Humans Being, About Time, Up For Breakfast (although I hate the lyrics in that one) era, then Balance/FUCK, after that I don’t care, didn’t like 5150/OU812. WACF s a little to dry and raw for me, but some great tunes and solos on that.

couldn't pick just one if i had too... they're all so unique and saying just what needed to be said for that song.

the VH brothers, then MA thrown in with his dope bass-lines... those guys were so GD funky....loved their funk and groove they had. built on RnR tones, just killer. i'm sorta convinced Rick james (bitches) borrowed the groove from Jaime's crying for the super freak (maybe not, but ya'll get the picture).

DDL is on the verge of being a disaster, but it's ed laying shit down and it works
The swing and funk on Mean Street

damn guys...

Not a solo, but the transition from acoustic-to-electric at he beginning of "Take Your Whiskey Home" has always been a standout for me.

Here is another that is probably not top in your mind. It is the solo in the middle of 'Big River'. It is almost a minute long. Go to 1:45. Like Eruption, it kind of summarizes a lot of his styles at once.

Anyone check this out? It frickin' rips.

I dug most of the stuff on this album because I had always wanted another album and tour with Dave and Ed together. We got it. Also, because this album has a more back to the raw sound and not that over produced over tracked over chorused feel of the Sammy era.

This could change at any moment, but:

1. Ice Cream Man
2. I'm the One
3. So this is Love
Honorable Mention: Hot for Teacher

Top Jimmy.

That solo is untouchable. The beginning with the harmonics and dive-bombs/ pull ups is insane.

Yes! Plus I actually dig that clean rhythm tone he plays with throughout the song, but also the amazing rhythm playing. Also the solo in I’ll Wait.
Also really dig the intro to Fools from WACF.
