What is your "go-to" hi-gain amp??

And how is it's clean channel? If it has one. It seems most amps don't rule both sides completely. I'd like my next head to be strong in both departments. Anyone have opinions or experiences with amps they think are good clean and hi-gain? Obviously there is the A/B/Y option, but I'd prefer one unit!

For my tastes the Bogner ecstasy and Friedman be-100 with full clean are great in both respects.

Boogie Mark V

I've never played with the Mark series. How does the IV/V compare to the II and the III? Any significant improvements?

Fortin Meathead

Fortin gets a lot of positive attention. Must be why they're so rarely given up!

Best high gain amp I ever owned was an FJA modded Single Rec. He changed the tranny out and the clean channel was seriously great because of it. Might be something to check into.

Both of those amps seems like they would cover pretty good ground. Dabbled with an Ecstasy for a couple of minutes but never a BE. Price tag on both is definitely substantial.

That's interesting! I've only heard FJA stuff online unfortunately. He seems highly regarded. I'd like to play an amp with his work put into it sometime.

Gower Rockmonster. It is truly awesome, for high gain stuff it cant be beat!! great touch sensitivity, really punchy and articulate, and as much usable gain on tap as you want!! Send Goweras decent Marshall. Mine is a 78 JMP 100 watt. 2 channels, great loop, hi/lo gain structure toggle(I keep it on the low gain setting with the gain control up 3/4 of the way and it is vicious!), foot switchable, and a push/pull depth control tht Rocks!!!very VERSATILE!! can do just about any type gain you need. use one of the channels for a clean, or just peel back the volume because it cleans up really good.

Diezel Herbert (mark II) - gain channels are beyond awesome and the clean is superb too!

With Diezel build quality I'd have no reservation about picking up a second hand one either, only downside is the amps weight - it's heavy as hell ;)

Diezel Einstein.

All Diezels I have heard are gain monsters but have superb dedicated clean channels.

I have 2, a JVM1H and Mesa Boogie Mark III.

The JVM1H clean is very limited. The clean on the Mark III is nice.

Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.
Maxon OD808 up front, Flashback X4 and CE-5 in the loop.
Awesome.

^^^ This!

Roadster or Sig X. Both have great (but different) cleans.

I would say the amp in your Avatar is right up there on both accounts. Pretty awesome amps. Most think they are just for high gain but I really like the cleans too. For me though high gain would either be my Uberschall or Cameron modded JCM 800 RI.
