What speakers are you using with your SHIVA?

I keep going back to Vintage 30s in my Bogner cab with my EL34 Shiva but a good friend with good ears, suggested I pair the V30s with something more scooped or brighter like a Celestion G12H-75 or a G12K-100 or a WGS ET-65.

What do you Shiva fellas think about this pairing or best to stay with all Vintage 30s?

Up until about a month ago, I was using a 4x12 straight with WGS Veteran 30s. That was my main cab for about 5 years, so my ears were tuned to it. All my amps sounded great thru it, including the Shiva 20th. Then I picked up a Bogner 4x12 with V30s, to match the Shiva. I must say that the amp sounds way better with this cab. Ive come to realize that the general consensus regarding Shivas and true V30s is the correct one!

Ive had a Mesa 4x12 with V30s and now the Bogner with V30s. The WGS Vet 30s are nice, but they dont sound like Celestions IMHO. Nowhere near as much cut, or upper mid presence...which I think the Shiva benefits from.

I cant comment on mixing speakers, as Ive never tried it. But Im interested to hear your findings.

I finally dumped the V30s. I am so sick of V30s. My Greenbacks, Lynchbacks and especially the G12K-100s destroy the V30s.

I'm not decided, I've only had my Shiva for a short time, both 25w GBs' and V30s' sound great to me.

Love the Shiva with Lynchbacks and 25 watt Greenbacks! Also, terrific with WGS ET6 and Vet 30s. I also used some stock Marshall cabs at rehearsal that rocked.

Tubes have been part of the issue.
Hey guys. I have about 3 sets of JJ power tubes I got from you all - I ended up using the EL34s in the PWE Event Horizon to get a more classic Marshall tone. WOW! I also tossed the SED Winged Cs from the Bogner Shiva, and again, WOW after installing JJ E34Ls at 32mA! Killer! I also rounded up the ECC83s tubes in my tube box but they are 10 years old and worry me. However, the Shiva sounds a million times better than stock.

The V30s are fine now, but if anything, I would mix in a dark speaker, like the Classic Lead 80 or G12-65.

Right now, my all time favorite speakers are V30s, 25 Greenbacks, Lynchbacks and G12K100s.

So, the Bogner cab with V30s is perfect, no need for other speakers. I used this cab with my PWE at rehearsal and it was glorious, rich, wide and full - nothing harsh or beamy.

Since this is a 212, I may skip the Greens and go with a CL80 or G1265 to pair with the v30.

The CL80 would work well, the G1265 won't be heard.

The G12-65 cuts just fine. I will either go with the CL80, G1265 or G12T75. The CL80 seems to lack the clarity of a V30 however.
