I have right at $40 worth of points at musicians friend to use before they expire. They don't sell anything on my list of things to get so I don't really know what I should use the points on. What's something fun and costs around $40 that I can get?

I would probably use that $40 for accessories. Strings, picks, maybe a new clip on tuner.

See if you can find a Danoelectro Fish n Chips 6 band EQ or Digitech Bad Monkey OD (TS clone). Both well worth the cost.

Danelectro French Toast. Cheap clone of one of the all time best fuzzes and sounds maybe 85-90% as good as the real deal. It sent many expensive boutique fuzzes packing for me

Danelectro black coffee if you can find it.

(Not the black LIQUORICE, the black COFFEE)

Cheap enclosure and all, but it does a fantastic gnarly black metal/crust punk high gain. With an eq pedal, I actually used it on some of my old black metal records.

- Guitar setup tools
- Strings
- Patch cords
- Picks
- Headstock tuner
- Metronome

$40 gets you a whole lot of nothing good unless you buy a used boss metal zone and also snag a leaven backstage plus and then you are dealing in pure glory.

Strings.

Usually I am buying strings, if I am in a shop and I must have something. But last time I have bought nice (vintage style cloth) instrument cable and I am happy to have it.

Earlier today I came across a NIB Zoom R20 digital multitrack recorder on Reverb listed for near a steal and bough it. Been wanting a newer and easier solution for recording than pulling out the old mixer, interface and computer. I used my points to get a new mic. I decided to get an Electro Voice CO9 Cobalt mic. A lot of reviews compare it to an SM58 and everything's mostly positive. SM58 works great for micing cabs so why not give this one a shot. Between the sale and points it costed me all of $5 out of pocket for a $70 mic. So if it sucks I'm not out much.
