I just bought an avatar traditional 2x12 cab that has two Celestion G12H speakers in it. Now, I thought I could use this with my Peavey ultra plus for practice so I don;t have to bring my 4x12. Now, I Didnt know this when i bought the cab, that the speakers were only 30 Watts each, Will it be safe to use my amp with a 60 watt only cab, (my amp is 120 Watts). Should I sell the G12H and buy two G12T 75's? or just keep my cab how it is? Will my Peavey hurt my cab or will it damage the cab?

A 60W cab for a 120 W amp is a big NO. Even a 120W cab for a 120W amp, if you use to play it loud, is pretty dangerous.

I think I'll put two G12T-75's in it, so its a 150 watt cab.

since you bought it for band practice i would assume the speakers would be well driven - so in your case, better to be safe and sorry. for medium volume i wouldnt see a problem though. as long as the impedance rules are kept, its all a matter of taste.

scumback speakers and scott splawn both sell greenback and H30 voiced speakers with a much higher headroom capability. check them out if you would like - they are choice and sound great

edit: ultra 120+? nice amplifier

I play thrash metal, and some death metal, What Scumback Speakers would work Best for that?

I really need a G12H in 16 ohms. If you sell them, let me know. I have a brand new WGS HM-75 (arrived last week) that I would swap if you are interested. It's like a GT-75 but smoother and with a little more mids.

I dont have the cab yet  Where I live, I have to wait until 10/10/10 to pick it up, since the cab came in 9/10/10

I suggest some Classic Lead 80's. They can be had pretty cheap and sound good. ;)

What is impedance, and how many watts can they handle

Too bad you're so far. I have a pr of G12t-75's that I would have swapped.
Just for kicks, PM me your zip and I'll look into a shipping quote

Trading those GH's for 75's would be like trading steak for bacon so I'd sell the GH's and buy whatever speakers you want like some Eminence Legends or Celestion K100's.
Maybe find some used 75's for cheap locally.

Yeah, i was thinking of that, since the G12Hs go pretty high on ebay, and G12t 75's go pretty cheap on ebay, i think i will just buy celestion K100's

Classic Lead 80's are a good suggestion. They are 80Watt RMS speakers and come in 8 or 16ohms. They work well with a large variety of amps too, ie they will sound good with your Mesa's as well....

232caps is selling a pair of Scumbacks. M75 and an H75. Those speakers are 65 watts each and sound great. The M is like a Greenback and the H is voiced like a G12H30.

I looked in the classifieds but i couldnt find his post.

Get on the scumback forum on this site - you might find something...

I personally can not comment 'positively' on the Classic Lead 80's. I can't stand 'em.

Good luck!!

I just put a pair of Elite 80s and G12T75 in an X pattern in my Marshall cab today and they blended very well. I did some old Rolling Stones, Blues and jazz and sounded great. I am more of a V30/G12T75 guy or EVMs, or C90 Black Shadows.

Im Think Im gonna Trade the G12H for a pair of K100's. Once I get the cab, I'll put up a trade ad in the classifieds
