What's a good gainy single channel on the cheap?

Marshall DSL? You can find them used all day long for $600 to $700. Two channels, shared eq, decent Master, wide range of gain available, etc. Basically meets every single requirement you listed at a great price.

However......

Perhaps the soon-to-be-released Friedman Pink Taco might interest you as well. A 20 watt, handwired Brown Eye with a loop. Could be a real winner. You would need to up your budget by about $350 though...... Details will start to emerge next weekend, during the L.A. Amp Show.

I am kind of interested in why you would want shared EQ, most people complain about that ?

Can cover just about any and everything...find these on the cheap too. Very underated sleepers these Laneys

These guys know whats up. Laney GH50L or GH100TI which is also a single channel amp and a little different voicing depending on tastes

JCM900 SL-X and you'll have probably enough money left for a weber attenuator for playing soft

Mesa single rectifier. Im more of a modded Marshall guy, but I had one of these and I thought it was a great amp. Plenty of gain, decent clean channel, loop, plays well with vintage 30's....... I sold it for $900.00 in mint condition. Ive seen em cheaper nowadays tho. The Deliverance is killer too. Had one and loved it. More dynamic than the Mesa, but if your hell bent on having a single channel, it fits your description of what you want very well.

+1

Im all for the Deliverance but my friend had a Single Reecto and it sounded brutal.

people have said Peavey VTM...but i really think my Ultra Plus can cover all kinds of ground, good clean channel, the crunch channel goes from slight gain to full on metal high gain, and the ultra channel goes over the top. yea, its 3 channel, but the EQs on the Crunch and Ultra are shared. half power switch (120/60). ive never played it with single coils, but im sure it would work well with good ones.

just an option...im never letting mine go! its just too good.

ps...i think it destroys my Single Recto in almost every way, except maybe the clean channel. but boosting the Recto on the modern mode is pretty tits!

seriously. I just played a Laney GH100L, and HOLY SHIT. thing is awesome! so cheap too. I will be picking one up ASAP. and of course, I strongly back the Deliverance 60 recommendations.

btw, there's a couple Laneys, a GH50L and a GH100L, on ebay for under 6 right now. and I still say don't discredit the D60 based on the dryness comments.

Marshall Kerry king is actually not a bad sounding amp , only problem is if you try checking out clips , people seem to play thrash .

Dsl great value for money , I prefere the 50 watt version .

Has anybody played an Orange AD30HTC? Two channel but sound great on YouTube. It's well under 1000 used.

The only problem with Marshall is that they are bright, and when combined with a tele might irritate me. I'm sensitive to harsh high-end. Oranges are darker and fuzzier, may be a better compliment for a tele. I've yet to play anything suggested.

Anybody on here happen to know the Knoxville area? Where should I be amp shopping?

Marshall Kerry king uses kt tubes , not bright at all , and I also thought this of the dsl ,,,, I found jcm 800 a lot brighter than these amps if your comparing them to that amp .

a tele and a D60 or JCM800 is going to be BRIGHT BRIGHT BRIGHT. orange may be your jam in that case. either that or a different guitar with humbuckers. I've played a bunch of Oranges, you are correct that they are darker and fuzzier. I've decided that new Oranges just aren't really my thing, other than maybe the Rockerverb, and only for certain things.
