Whats good about chambered body guitars?

Do they sound better? Can you still use high gain pickups with em?
 
Chambered bodies offer some different tonal characteristics, typically a bit of depth and warmth you'd miss from solid. That's part of the reason many guitars with filtertron type pickups are chambered, it helps smooth out that jangly tone.

You can still use high output pickups with them. Both PRS and Gibson build chambered guitars.

Another more obvious factor is weight. Chambers make the guitar lighter.
