Problems with Custom Guitar Order: AITAH?

I think great guitars are worth waiting for. That said, at the time of purchase/deposit, they should give you an accurate estimate. Going over that estimate by 6 months isn't bad, but years over is ridiculous.

Another thing is you spend a ton of money getting a custom. And while the finish doesn't really make it play better, you really want to say wow when you see it. When it comes different from how you expected, it just kind of lets you down.

I had that on a guitar i ordered from kiesel. I ordered it from them because of their top wood availability. But the back of the guitar was way better looking than the top. I don't know how much the picture really shows it.

The kiesel was done fast as fuck though. Think it took 3 months. $1450 was a great price for a custom, too

But when I got my jackson, i fell in love with it immediately. And they told me it could be 2-3 years, but it came in 15 months. It actually came at a time where I didnt have any money to buy it, so I had to move an amp.

I absolutely love the Jackson and it by far my favorite guitar I have ever played. It was $3800

But the single nicest guitar I ever had was a KXK. I think the builder got a bad name for taking like 6 years to build guitars back in the day. But the one I.had was pristine. It was a piece of art. It was my first experience with a floyd, and I couldnt stand the bridge otherwise I would still have it. (It was a custom, but i bought it used

I got it for $1100 i believe

I guitar isn’t custom if they still have so many restrictions on the build. It’s just al acarte from a small menu. Makers/builders who act like they’re doing you a favor vs entering a contract with obligations can fuck right off. It’s not a favor if I’m paying you a lot of money to do it.

I remember back in the late 90’s, working for a Gibson dealer I really wanted a gold top but with a LP standard neck, not the 57 reissue. No GT standards at that time. So basically I just needed a standard with a gold top. Had to go through custom shop and the only thing I requested, because every other spec was a given, was to have a relatively, even, dark rosewood board. Fucking thing shows up with a super pale, multi grain board that looked like someone’s chocolate, caramel desert had melted on it.
I’ll never order a custom guitar again.
