What's the TIGHTEST pickup you can think of?

I doubt you'll try one, but the tightest pickup I've tried was the Duncan Pearly Gates. They don't have much output, so you'll have to deal with that at the amp, but tight bottom they are......what is the body made of? Alot of explorers are ash bodies.

The chick I picked up at a bar on Friday night is by far the tightest i have experienced so far. Wow!!

I have a MCP 2nd Degree Black Belt we could try...

This is where I was headed next in this thread. I played one of these in a LPC and it was extremely tight and dry. If your amp has a ton of gain, this is probably the way to go.

Not sure what is up with your setup but I have yet to hear a pickup as tight as the Painkiller.

Every try one in an Explorer?

I'm telling you...it's a very soft bottom end.

And I've got a hot rodded MCP Warcry in my other Explorer...and I think it is a little too hot...a hell of a lot tighter than the Painkiller, but still that soft bottom end IN the Explorer.

and the Warcry is an incredibly tight pickup.

I need specifically a very very tight Bottom end to tighten up the mushy soft explorer. Something to ADD definition to the bass side of things, instead of just boom.

Never tried one in an Explorer. The good ol' 500T that I have in mine is super tight so I have never bothered switching it.

I just did this and it helps tremendous, and rich, the 2nd D has that super clarity!!!Let your ears adapt too

I wonder if I should try a Dimarzio D-Activator. I have one in my Xiphos, and it works really well in that guitar. Very very tight tone, and those are based off the tone of an EMG81....but passive...

hmmm.....

I had good results with the 500T in an explorer as well.

I had a full shred in a v years ago that was super tight. Wasn't a heavy guitar, just a flubby piece of wood, and it worked good....

I just updated the original post up top with sound clips.

Please listen to get a better idea of what I am talking about, and looking for.

Duncan Custom... I have one that is not tied to a guitar currently. If you are a man of your word I could let you borrow it to see if you like it or not so long as you return it to me the same as it was given to you. PM me if you are interested.

MCP Solution.

I guess you are digging it even after a good while. That says something. I should try another one of those.

What speaker are you mic'ing on the Uberkab? Also, what's the name of the song you're playing?

I personally liked the Explorer with the hot-rodded Warcry the best, but to each his own. I've found with my EMG-equipped guitars that I can adjust the tightness of the pickups by changing their height- this plays a huge role in tone regardless of the guitar or pickup. Also string gauge, picking style and picking location on the string play a factor.

I just traded off my Solution for another Adrich a couple of weeks ago.

I had tried it in my LP, SG, and it wasn't the tone I was after. was a very BRIGHT pickup, i found.

Perhaps it would have been the better choice here.

Maybe I'll have to try one again.
