It’s 2026… economy is doing economy things, diesel is 6.00 a gallon… AI killing jobs…. Where’s the gear?!?

I’ve noticed a HUGE down tick over the past 5 years in anything I look for…used to be everyday on Marshall forum, reverb etc incredible gear…. Bray modded Marshall, Splawns, Camerons, you name it….

Has anyone else noticed way less “good” gear besides current production trading hands?

I blame this place.. too many weekly Cameron threads finally peaked my curiosity, one drunken night that buy it now button got a little to big for me not to hit, and now theres one less Cameron on the market for good getting put to good use jamming over SideNeck.

I have a home studio full of of guitars and amps.

I rarely get gas since I don’t play out anymore, but I still look for gear on FB, CL, and pawnshops.

I don’t see the higher end quality gear being sold like it was 5-8 years ago.

I guess guys are just holding on to their gear more these days.

I have so much shit but I don’t sell anymore since PayPal went to 6 months for a dispute.

You’re gonna buy my shit and SIX MONTHS LATER decide you don’t want it anymore and return it? Get fucked….

I have so much shit I don’t even use but it’s not worth it anymore. I’m thinking of a huge GC sell off….

I don’t have a ton of gear but a modest collection. I’ve had more issues with shipping and damaged gear. I’m at the point where fuck shipping. Local or go home.
And yes I’ve noticed over the last few years seems more like for sale gear looks more like FB marketplace. The unique stuff has dried up.

You seen them prices brother? Back then you could buy a 2c+ for 2k. Try that now.

I'll echo a lot of what others have said. The stuff I'd want to sell are things I don't want to bother with shipping, and they're worth more to me than what I'd get for them locally. Dealing with packing, shipping, low ballers, buyers who nickel and dime, etc.

Like, I've got a Peavey JSX combo, 120 watts, loud (and heavy) as fuck, in a rolling, live-in road case. It would be ridiculous to ship, and I can't imagine I'd get more than $700 for it locally. For all the hassle, I'd almost rather take it to GC and get 50% towards something else.

Give me another 7-10 years and I'll be selling lots of my gear.

Just one more amp and 1-2 more guitars to buy...

Lots of us have gotten to a place where we have the means to hold onto gear rather than flip it to make a new purchase. Plus, we have the space for it. At least that's me. I'm older, have a larger place, have enough steady income to just buy the occasional thing that speaks to me and generally can't be bothered to deal with the hassle of selling stuff. I think about it frequently, but never quite get around to it.

When I was younger, I couldn't buy new stuff without selling old stuff, and didn't have much space for stuff in the smallish apartments I lived in for years.

For out of production stuff, I think it just finds a permanent home eventually. The "float" of actively traded gear just falls the longer it's out of production.

Just use Zelle

There’s probably also a lot more “collectors” out there than “musicians”.

It does seem a bit odd though. Wanted to pick up a used JP7 a little while ago and as popular as they once were you don’t see them pop up used much anymore.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I used to churn gear like crazy…a lot of high end stuff included.

In recent years, my gear whoring has slowed down A LOT, so I don’t have much that I don’t like/love.

Add that to dealing with asshats is not fun (I’ve had great experience buying and selling here, so rig talk excluded), shipping is expensive and a gamble and PayPal buyer protection (yes, I know of other services, but PayPal is somewhat universal) and I end up not being interested in selling gear.

Hell, when I bought my Reissue Dual Recto, I bought new, specifically so I could return it if I didn’t like it rather than have to sell it.

My gear hoard is pretty much static these days. Gone are the days when you'd come across cool gear for stupid cheap. There is no way in this market that I would be able to go through so many different amps and guitars as I did without spending an absolute fortune. So I feel fortunate that I did that and I've ended up with a half a dozen really cool amps that I like. I suppose if I was a young guitar player these days, I would easily be swayed to the modelling side of things. Kinda sad really. What's gonna happen when we all start dying off? All of these antiquated tube amps are gonna start hitting the market. Is anyone even gonna want them?
