Which cable do you trust to run your rigs?

I'm trying to find something solderable that's smaller than the Sqaureplug. I really like the Ernie Ball and EBS style flat things, but I don't think you can take those connectors apart.

I've tried some like these, but they're almost as big as the squareplug

Those are larger than my sp400. My buddy has some of those same ones I could have sworn. I had the ernie ball flat patches and swapped them directly with my new cables with no issues with fit.

I have quite a few used EB flat patch cables I'd let go for really cheap since I replaced them all and they are just sitting here.

The mogami noise antenna style cable got -30 in the noise test, which was significantly better than a lot of the noise antenna cables tested, such as Fender's -6, HOSA at -12 and -6, or the Lava Blue Demon, but of course worse than the best non-noise antenna cables like the Lava coil at -49

I bet if you ran the test with line level high impedance inputs you'd see the results flip here. Don't run the wrong type of cable for the application.

This test mostly just showed exactly what you'd expect, noise antenna cables are noisy, quiet cables are quiet. You could look at the cable itself and accurately predict just by jacket size which side of the noise curve these would end up on

Right on but again under the same conditions as the others...... Mogami ranked in the bottom 10 of not just a couple cables but 79 different cables and performed worse than Ernie Ball, MXR, Sommer, Mooer cables etc etc.......


Its just a waste of money in todays day and age given the opportunity cost of higher quality cables in the market that cost the same or less and perform much much better.

CA-0678 for the instrument cable with switchcraft plugs.

Solder.

It's worth it.

CA-0446 with SP400 plugs.

BTPA is solid...... that mini cable is one of the quietest patches Ive tried under extreme conditions.


Much much better quality than Mogami garbage too.

I have been down the cable rabbit hole for many decades and now simply use the D'addario PW-GRA cables and/or the MXR Pro Series cables. Both are supple, well built and low capacitance and most importantly, will not break the bank.

If your looking for cables on the cheap but good quality check out MXR...... their Pro Series is a good starting point and their patches are pretty good.


If you got more money and want American but at a great value that dont break the bank BTPA is your best bet.... regular cable or patch...... made in the USA too



If your looking at foreign check out Sommer LLX with HiCon plugs...... them guitar cables from Germany are great




If your looking for an all around...... nothing special..... but special and solid cable IMO Divine Noise ain't bad either and sort of has a that "classic" sound for lack of a better term...... made in America too




Cant go wrong with whatever you get nowadays at so many price points IMO and a lot of quality stuff and cables being made.



Ime whatever the case may be a quality cable goes a long way in the end sound and quality of ones rig and tone....... and sometimes its underplayed or overlooked but it makes a lot of sense once you consider that is where the signal travels through inherently.

I use the EBS cables on my pedalboard.

Over the last couple years I’ve slowly replaced everything in my studio (a shitload of cables) with cables from Castline.

It’s a little shop in Ohio that makes cables using Mogami wire. They offer Silver (Mogami 2582 wire) and Gold (Mogami 2524 wire) in just about any length and connector you need. It’s a fraction of the price of Mogami.

Cool.. a few months ago I ordered a cable from Amazon that was made by them. I didn't know they had an online store. It is cheaper to buy straight from their website.

The 3 monkeys patch cables are also pliable - they hold their shape on right angle type bends for a clean layout. Use the DC jacks from them also, which uses the same pliable cable. Best patch cable I've tried so far.

Hey please do you know which is better and different between Sommer Spirit LLX vs Rattlesnake guitar cable.
Which is brighter and have better details.Regards

As I've said before,
either Klotz LaGrange (high quality, but a tad stiff) or Sommer Spirit XXL; very flexible and high quality. Both have a low capacitance.

I used Mogami, various Tasker, Belden, Cordial and Monster (rock) in the past. Still have some of those.
So good quality, but nothing too esotheric, except for my custom made Kimber 4VS speaker cable maybe.

Downside of the Monster cable is also the thickness of the plugs; that's a hair over 1/4", making it hard to insert into my Ibanez S540FM. (cue obligatory 'Asians are typically tighter anyway' jokes... )

The Monster cables have almost double the capacitance of the Klotz and Sommer cables, and yes, this is audible when you're using 6 or 9m, I mean...18ft or 27ft cables.

I still use the same red Horizon Vai cables from 30 plus years ago.
