A droptop style superstrat usually comes with a sculpted neck heel of some kind so... ding ding ding... the winner. I put down any traditional style with a block heel (hence why I don't have a Charvel in my stable).
I've got a drop top Suhr Modern that I love, and I also have a straight up alder bodied Charvel that I love too... if I was forced to make a choice though I'd take the drop tops just because I love that classy vibe that they exude.
I've been through several. I've kept the superstrat models - slightly more pronounced curves, more cut-away, better fitted neck, etc. The curled and flamed tops are just a function of fashion, and it just so happens my superstrats all have 'em (1 x Suhr, 2 x ESP).
I voted for Drop Top. Although, it doesn't have to have a maple top for me to dig it. I just prefer "superstrats" in general for their more modern features, such as what Ventura listed. Also, I have never liked pickguards.
i like both... i have one charvel with i guess a drop top, it is the 25th anniversary model, but the body shape is standard, it just has the flame top that curves over....
I don't really care for the body style - both are comfortable for me. What i do care is the input jack placement - i don't like the classic Fender input on the top.
