Who has " sold it all" and gone AXE FX??????

I'd never considered it. Never will.

I need someone to explain to me how those things are more "convenient" than an amp for a live gigging musician. Not possible.

Home recording? I think it'd be cool. Pricey, but demo's would sound great.

I gotta say, I've been following all the updates on this unit ect. And 6.1 to me..I'm disillusioned, it seems Fractal is getting further from the mark than closer.

No way. Then you'd never experience blown tubes and fuses, voltage variation wonkiness, lugging around 60lb heads, sending your amp head to a guru to get a legendary 80s mod (and make that clean channel usable while you're at it!), limited versatility, and massive cable-cluttered pedalboards filled with rare NOS germanium transistors that all-in-all probably cost as much as an amp itself. I mean, think of the understanding you'll be missing out on!

I still like using "real" amps live, but got one for the studio, that thing shines!

Plenty of people have had problems with the Axe FX too. Let's say FAS goes under someday and the Axe FX has issues... what happens now? But, those tube amps will still be serviceable for decades, anywhere, anytime.

What makes you say that? 6.01 was a great update.

Some folks just plug into a provided P.A. system and don't mess with the whole setup.

Check out Scott Peterson's versions of the amp presets. He does quite a bit to try to get rid of some of the nasty harshness I'm talking about. Compare his presets to the Fractal patches. Y'know what... those first 49 presets on this thing should kill. One after the next should be incredible....Well, as of the umpteenth or so firmware update....not so much yet. I realize it's a work in progress though, I just think the box should be a bit better by now.

edit- with the release of 6.2 I had to soften my previous statement-

But that kind of logic doesn't apply to digital, where systems are being completely overshadowed by the next iteration of digital systems all the time. If FAS goes under someday, you wouldn't care about getting your Axe-FX fixed up because the models, effects, and features of the current state-of-the-art will be that much better. Do you still have your computer from 5 years ago? Today's Axe-FX II is tomorrow's POD-HD level device, and so on.

It's probably worth switching over and getting used to the paradigm now, because one constant of guitar and recording gear: it certainly isn't getting less digital.

i personally just dont understand the whole axe fx obsession, maybe im to old

I agree with Rezamix, I haven't gigged with my Axe-fx but at practice I tried just the Axe in my poweramp, it sounded ok but I just preferred my tube preamp especially for lead (just used the axe for effects). Not sure if this helps but I have been messing around with the axe in 4cm with my VHT 50CL and I have no issues once I got all the levels right.

Follow up to my previous post, I used the axe in 4cm at band practice for the first time and I did get the dreaded hum sound, it was ok at bedroom volumes but not at high volumes.

Anyone:

I had to sell my old rack which was a triaxis and g force mainly

can I really get these 2 things back via one item, the axe fx ultra?

I hope so....?

I can not afford a 2, but am able to get a used ultra soon.

It would be much cheaper than buying all my 12 space rack stuff back

No.

An axe fx is an axe fx. Not a rebadged bogner, diezel, TC electronics, dbx, fender, marshall, engl, or any other product your brain thinks is a viable excuse.

Then dont bother going in debt over it - grab what you can and play - gear is gear.

I also went the total digital route with an Eleven Rack. I used the setup primarily for live use. While it was cool, and I enjoyed it (for a while), I have since unloaded all of that stuff and returned to tube amps. There is something Visceral about the nature of tube amps. The weight, the heat, the glow, and yes the unpredictability, that cant be matched. Playing my Mesa Mark V or my Splawn Quickrod makes me feel a certain way that the 1's and 0's could never do.

It just depends on the situation. For me, the Axe-Fx is a great piece of gear. I can't afford a ton of amps so having a ton of different tones is great. I just look at it as another amp in the arsenal. My Marshall JVM cost as much as my Axe-FX II did.

I like tube amps, solid state amps, and modelers. Whatever fits my situation at the time is what I go with.

Axe Fx II - firmware 6.02 released. Moving in the right direction again. I don't know how triode hardness makes such a big difference, but it does. :D

I'd love to have an Axe FX, I'd defintately record with it, but I'd miss having an amp too much to get rid of it.

I could never "sell it all", though I wouldn't mind having an AXE FX in addition to my amps.

Not trying to be a smart A@@ I promise, but I'd rather sell crack to kindergarteners than run a digital modeling amp. I just don't get the fascination and never will. I'll gladly run my 69' original Marshall Plexi or one off Soldano SLO-100 anyday; however, I do run through a Hermit Cabs custom one off 2 x 12" Isolation cabinet to control the intense volume. It just can't get any better.

I had an Axe-Fx standard for a year or so. I ended up selling it and buying a Splawn Nitro half stack. The Axe sounded really, really good and did everything as advertised. I just found myself tweaking it more than playing it.
