didn't sell it all but had the 2 .

I was really really excited .I Got it went through the presets and thought most were something I would never use.
Then I had to buy 180 headphones to get a good headphone sound, then there was the power amp and then you needed a controller.
So the initial outlay of 2200 is sure not where it ends

After one particular long tweaking session .My wife came home and said Wow,I think that the worst sound you have ever gotten.
It was definetly user error ,but the thing was
My Baron is just plug cable into guitar and go, and hour later your fingers are sore from playing.
Axe fx wire this cable . change this parameter ,upload this and 3 hours later you have a headache from looking at a computer screen.

Don't get me wrong, I think it has a purpose ,In the end for me it was too much .I would certainly be intrested in and AXlite and others have mentioned, scaled down effects amps and cabs .
but I don't need 25% of the stuff the Axe has.

That was basically the same experience I had with the Axe FX II... too much effort, too many options... I'm a simple fella. I tweak a ton, but prefer doing it with knobs... also it's more fun buying new toys on a whim!

I'm going back to amps - nothing wrong with the Axe II apart from I spent so much time swapping out cabs, speakers and just generally tweaking.

What I have learned is that I have a sound, I have my clean, my crunch and my high gain stuff and thats it - I've stopped trying to replicate others' tones. I learn from their style / technique and then add my own twist.

So Axe II is going very soon and a Diezel is incoming.

A final point - a lot of folks complain about the cost of the Axe - to me no question it is great value. The cost of my pedal board + amp is way more than the Axe, just the Axe ain't for me.

--And thats kinda what it was for a lot of people I know a great gateway drug .lol
What I mean is you find one or 2 amps you really love like a Bogner or Freidman and you spend all your time playing em .One day you walk into a music store and plug into a real Bogner, Deizel whatever and you realize the difference.
I think in a way that why the amp companies don't really mind because they are exposing people to a decent representation on their product ,and in a lot of cases it ends with the customer seeking out the real amp

Haven't even thought about it.. Soldano SLO...

You can really hear the difference here:

The tone matching on the Axe FX really isn't the great, IMO. I'm sure there are people out there better than me at it, but I was never able to get a sound I was content with, and most of the clips aren't quite there.

I got rid of the Axe FX and now I'm messing around with preamps direct into an interface with the Two Notes Torpedo plugin, and it sounds great for only 65 bucks!

Yep, like the one I posted above you. Doesn't sound at all like the original amps that proceed each tone. Huge difference. Obvious to even the casual listener.

sonically not a lot of difference in a recording but play a Mark V or Recto side by side or take them both to a gig.
and if you still prefer the axe thats great a lot of people do and Fractal has a huge following

Not trying to be argumentative but I keep hearing that from forum guys and yet some huge names do use it live and sound stellar out front and onstage. Must be something they do.

Works live for me much better than the amps I used to drag around. No shrill tone directly in front and muffled to the side. That and the fact I have to play anything from hard rock to jazz or country makes it a no brainer.

I have stated though that if I played metal or rock only and only in loud bars I would probably rock a stack like I did back in the day. I think it's better for some folks and not for others so we pretty much agree.

i can't understand why people say on fractal forum that are blown away on every firmware upgrade

That is weird. I have made fun of that stuff over there. I think they should release a placebo FW just to see what people post.

It's almost like guys who constantly change cabs, speakers, caps, tubes, do mods, etc then rave about new tone. A month later they have a new amp and do it all over again.

The updates never made a huge difference to me, until firmware 6.0... that was a HUGE improvement.

to me all hi gain amps on 6.0 are like boss metal zone, all harsh and too bassy.

I didn't get that impression at all... and the 5150 III model is fantastic.

Firmware 6 is a real big advance or at least I thought so. My reason for getting into the Axe Fx was to get low volume practice tones that would not upset the neighbours. I can get okay tones at low volumes from an amp BUT I get much better tones (with some air moving) when I gig with an amp.

I agree that the 5150III is darn good.
