Who here has several guitars and amps but is not in a band?

If your in the States.... Your taxes are not paying for much more than interest on loans. Places like China and Japan are actually paying for a lot of it.
Japan rescently surpassed China as the largest debt.
 
Whatever makes you happy, ! say.
If buying top end gear and just playing it in the bedroom , at conversation levels, is something that makes you happy, then I don't see the harm in it. Buy a Diezel or Bogner! It's still fun to jam by yourself, especially when you have some high quality instruments and amplifiers.

Even though I've been in a few bands over the last 10 years most of my playing is done at home. It's fun, and if you gotta rhythm track to play too, it's even better.
 
I've been playing out for the last few years and have less gear than when I was just jamming at home. Sold off a bunch of combos I wasn't using (really prefer heads and cabs) some stomp boxes and some other miscellaneous stuff. Proceeds went to gear I'm using for gigs. I love playing out! Just turned 50 and I figure I got another 15 years of gigging in me :D Even if I wasn't gigging I'd still have most of the gear I have now 'cause it's what I use all the time.

Another home hack here, although my teenage son is in a band so a lot of the gear we've accumulated does get used for his gigging, recording or as band backups.

I set personal goals this year of playing something out in public, probably a solo or duet open-mic night type of thing, as well as writing and recording at least one song on my own. I think I'm on track for both to happen by mid-summer.
 
What exactly are the stereotype's of Rig Talk?

Are we legendary?
 
I'm in 3 bands. 2 of which I play lead guitar, the other I work as their guitar tech, and in the summer their touring rhythm guitarist. Having said that, I haven't had one band practice or one show in probably 2 months. The last 6 months probably had 2 shows and 3 practices combined. Just a weird slope right now. So I suppose that counts as not being active in a band right now lol. Which is weird because since November I've been snapping up a ton of gear; most were amazing CL deals I couldn't pass up.
 
I've watched more people like mark day, or Pete thorn do demos then there live stuff maybe that's just me..

Yup, in that this forum is known for having a bunch of guys that have a ton of expensive gear and play at home. Think it's partly the median age of the board as well as the fact that a lot of us have jobs that pay decently well.

I know a ton of guys on other forums that do the exact same shit we do, just with less expensive gear.

Fuck em and their stereotypical whining. You want a Diezel and can afford it? Buy one. Who cares what anyone on the internet thinks anyway? I'm a member of four main forums and they're all different and most of em hate all the other forums lol...GAB doesn't like RT, SSO doesn't like MLP, MLP doesn't like GAB or SSO and thinks no pickup should be hotter than 8-9k so the 'wood can breathe' etc...

Different strokes...I love LPs and 7 strings and delay pedals and high gain amps and good modelers. I play it all and do it wherever I can. I suck, but I play. :)

I'm not currently in a band. I was in multiple bands when I lived in Connecticut. I played in church for the last 10 years or so. We recently changed churches and I am currently taking a break and sitting out. I play almost daily and have a blast!

How did you get the $$$ for such great gear?
Some gear (especially the left-handed guitars) I bought new and never sold. Over the years (since the 70s) the collection has grown. I love the amps that I have. The only gear that I buy now is usually pedal related. For major purchases, I either sell of something I want less than the new item, or, I save up for it.

Do you use all of the gear you own on a daily basis?
I play almost every day. But, I go in spurts with my gear. Sometimes I will get on an "Effectrode" kick and will play for a week using the Blackbird. Then I will switch to something else. Same with the amps. Currently, I am getting a kick out of playing my SS-11a through the effects return of my Nomad.

The chronic welfare class (many of whom are too damn lazy to get or keep a job) don't get to have their cake and eat it too. The stigma of accepting handouts used to be enough motivate people to get up off their ass and EARN their keep, just like everyone else. But we have now a permanent class of "victims" who feel entitled to TAKE TAKE TAKE and NEVER rightfully earn that which they receive. And many of us who DO drag our asses out of bed every damn day are beyond mother-fucking TIRED of carrying our weight while these sonsofbitches spend their days fucking-up their own lives and their children's lives... all the while being pissed at those who work and pay taxes to support their sorry asses.

Meanwhile, leftist politicians pander to these people, keeping them wallowing in their own filth, just to buy another vote and further increase their political power.

It used to be that people had the balls to call bullshit when they saw it, but now we're so damn politically-correct that we detour around the elephants in the room rather than speak cold, hard truth. My words aren't true for everyone who've found themselves in difficult times. But they damn sure are true for everyone who makes excuses about not being able to find or keep jobs, when the reality for them is that they've found a comfortable little place to hang where they don't have to deal with the daily bullshit that us chump working-stiffs have to deal with. I see them lined-up in front of the local municipal court every day by the hundreds... paying their fines. Of course, it's ALWAYS someone else's fault that they're there. They were framed. They weren't driving drunk and with a suspended license. They didn't hit a pedestrian in a vehicle while uninsured (my wife's life-long injuries tell another story).

So grow the fuck up and stop pretending this shit doesn't go on every single day in every city. It does, and and about damn time those who work to keep this behemoth shitwagon rolling start telling the dead weight to get off their asses and help or get lost! :rock:

I'm 28 and played in a band for 10 1/2 years and my last show was the end of January. I'm selling most of my stuff to delve into guitar building.

Acquired my gear through my tax refunds and job savings.

I hardly play my stuff anymore, but have been lending out my Friedman Naked to friends to play shows with.
 
How many do not play in a band? I play in two cover bands and one, off/on original band that's been together 10+ years. I play out 3-4 per month, more in the summer and rehearse just as much. Still just a hobby, though one of the bands does make decent $$.


How did you get the $$$ for such great gear? I have a nice career but have been buying stuff for many, many years and I'm in my mid-40s. I only straight up buy several high end guitars and maybe one or two amps a year. The rest I trade/sell to get.


Do you use all of the gear you own on a daily basis? Absolutely not. I have 20+ viable electric guitars and 6-7 nice amps with cabs. For the most part, in my most busy cover band I use pretty common gear, but that's because it gets dragged around alot, we don't have much stage volume and really, I don't want to fuck up my Friedmans, Camerons or whatever...not to say my good stuff doesn't get used, but its used in a much more selective environment than being dragged around in snow, left in a garage and run for hours a night, night after night. I like to buy 80's shredder guitars that I could NEVER afford when I was a teen in the late 80s.

I remember vividly being in high school and working an entire summer for a Marshall amp or a USA Jackson guitar.

Playing covers, busting my ass to get a higher paying job/keeping my job, and being pretty quick to jump on good deals and trade up.

I use at least %50 of my gear daily. I tend to sell things that I won't play. I usually stick with 2 or 3 electric workhorses, an acoustic, 2 tube amps, and 1 or 2 4x12 cabs.

Actually playing gear, in a band setting, has contradicted what I've read on forums so often that I don't really get on here anymore for anyone's opinion on gear. More power to the bedroom shredders and collectors, but what sounds good through headphones in a bedroom office doesn't usually translate to playing live. .. Usually lol.
 
I have never played in a real band, and I likely never will. I have no interest to. I like great gear and I enjoy collecting as much or more than playing. Guitar is simply a stress reliever for me. I play once every few weeks, sit down, crank up an amp, play for a 1/2 hr until my ears hurt, and I'm good for a while.

You have all that gear and you've never been in a band, and you don't even want to jam with a band!?? You are missing out, man, big time!
 
To be honest, when I see these dude's that have all of the top end gear in the world and they have never, ever played with a band...I feel a bit sick... it's seriously sickening to me...sorry, it just is. What a waste!

If it's just a couple guitars and amps, then it's all cool, but when their house looks like a guitar center.... :no: it's just depressing.
