Who here has several guitars and amps but is not in a band?

Is that like someone who has a 4x4 SUV and has never driven off-road?

Why do so many people care what others do with their money?

Life is short if you have decent gear and that makes you happy great ! I have played in bands and no longer do that so should I immediately sell everything because I will be judged here? Honestly I wonder how many people watch gear demos over some dude posting his band that they watch for 15 seconds and then judge that ..does anyone really care what someone wears ,eats, drives specially a stranger posting who you will probably never meet ?

To be honest, when I see these dude's that have all of the top end gear in the world and they have never, ever played with a band...I feel a bit sick... it's seriously sickening to me...sorry, it just is. What a waste!

If it's just a couple guitars and amps, then it's all cool, but when their house looks like a guitar center.... it's just depressing.
You get sick and depressed because other people are spending their own money?
Either you have a serious illness that I hope you get checked out or you simply suffer from an unhealthy amount of jealousy.

are you being serious?
I don't know why it would bother you?
sounds like jealousy if you are not joking about this

I have quite a lot of gear, play in a band and record music for film/tv projects in my studio. If you are a bedroom/house jammer I don't think any less of you, but I do not respect your opinion on what works live, because your not using it live. I think thats fair.

What movies/tv shows do you score?

Cause somewhere out there is a kid with enormous talent in a poverty stricken country, but he can't afford to get the gear he needs to get into a decent band. He's someone that wants contribute, ya know? instead of being a douche and just playing their LP and Diezel in front of their mirror in their moms basement... I don't understand why anyone would buy that kinda gear just to play alone in their basement? just seems like a waste. Like a Porsche sitting in a garage collecting dust... such a shame.

Hell no, i'm not jealous. I got all the gear I need. It just seems like a waste is all...

No, it's like a Porsche that's used to get groceries or go to church once a week. The Porsche is a tool and the owner is using the tool. The tool doesn't care who uses it, or how he uses it. And if grocery Porsche guy sold the Porsche and bought a Kia instead, it doesn't mean that the poor talented race driver automatically gets the Porsche.

It sounds like the talented kid from your example needs to get a job to buy better gear.

Lots of gear.
Had a high-end home recording studio as a hobbyist as well, people came to use it.
I love quality Lesters and buy them whenever I see one I know I want.
I've tone tested for a few amp manufacturers.
I have a lot of amps.
I have a shitload of effects.
Cabs, active monitors, mics, cables out the whazoo, a great DAW, desk, etc.

I am not in a band.
That said, I've not been to my home or home country for over 1.5 years, and likely won't be for a while.

I'm a surfer now.

Dang man, you sound awful bitter.

There is no shortage of gear. As long as people buy it, manufacturers will make it. Someone "being a douche" in front of the mirror with their LP and Diezel aren't taking anything from the talented, starving kid in Ethiopia.

seriously.....the people who can afford all that nice gear are THE ONLY reason that those amp and guitar brands still exist......the rockstars do not buy enough to keep those companies afloat.....the bedroom rockers with expensive hobbies are the only reason those amp brands are available to the "young poverty stricken" folks when they are finally able to land one.....

I have always played in a lot of bands. When I was younger, I was flat out broke as hell. I was lucky to meet some guys in the St. Louis area who had some truly awesome gear and I was able to try it out and really get a feel for what I liked. (forever greatful for Dave Rowlands for letting me use that Lonestar for the Pageant gig). Anyway, I think if you work your ass off and you want to have a bunch of rare amps and guitars...well you earned the money so it is your right. I will admit there is a level of jealousy that hits me when I see a guy with a stock plexi modding it the fuck out to hair metal status..but it is only because I just want that og plexi sound. I used to hate, I just don't hate anymore.

Good question.

To be clear I was talking about the thinly-veiled racism.
Didn't seem thinly-veiled actually. More like blatant...

Who are you to judge? If you really feel a bit sick/depressed about this, please seek help... :jerkit:

I get your point. Now I feel that should practice a lot. Thank you!!

i haven't been in a band for three years or so. but i do a lot of local open mic's and blues jams. i honestly like open mic's and blues jams more than gigging. i don't need the money from gigging (which as it has been said pays for your dinner at taco bell), and sometimes the frustrations are too much, people not showing, people being difficult, etc.

the only thing i miss about gigging in a band was using more of an elaborate setup than what you use at a open mic type atmosphere. i will bring my 5f1 or 1974x most often.

i also play metal, and i have some people that come over and i have drums and a full setup of everything and just have a good time playing and drink (i dont have to drive if i am at my house ;) ) some times we talk about gigging in a metal band, we just don't get around to it. and for me that is fine.

i do some recording for fun and am learning how to get better with recording a little at a time.

but i have 23 electrics, probably 16 tube amps (including a musicman hybrid), plenty of pedals, two drum sets, bass amp, etc.
